I think there may be a problem with that strategy. Nissan doesn’t have any customers worth speaking of that won’t jump ship for something cheaper. Everyone that I know that owns a Nissan bought it because it was the cheapest new car they could find. Zs and GTRs excluded of course. I think Nissan is in real trouble if they want to increase the quality of their products and raise the price with that, I think a lot of their customers will be leaving for other budget brands.

I loved Zs until Nissan broke my heart.

I had a 2006 350, it had an 18k oil burner that Nissan replaced under warranty. (known issue on the VQ motor) The replacement had a 12k/12 month warranty because they knew it would last that long. At 18 months/18k same thing happened & they said we'll give you free oil changes.

I'll never own another Nissan product (avter a lifetime of Datsun/Nissans)

I really don’t see why they can’t increase their quality like Mazda. In general, they might be budget, but they can be optioned to be nicer in higher trims. I don’t really think they are close to the end or in any way don’t have the means of getting out of their situation. Maybe with the economy being bad, Nissan sales will do well compared to more expensive brands. Who knows?

Even though Nissan recently announced a delay in the 400Z, they also just announced this preview of a Z prototype to be revealed in a couple of weeks:

https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/20...weeks-sort-of/

Seems to me the company would genuinely like to make a new Z. The only question is, can they afford to, and will they be around long enough to pull it off?

It's annoying how most things in life usually boil down to money.

Why would it have a 300HP twin turbo V6 (bottom illustration) when the 370Z has a V6 that makes 332HP in NA form?

Cause the VR30DDTT has a 300 HP version and a 400 HP version (the Red Sport). I'd agree that marketing the new Z with 400 HP would be improbable due to marketing HP/price. Might be the regular Z will get the 300 HP version and the Nismo will get the 400 HP version. I'm sure the 300 HP would be faster than the existing NA VQ37.

I have seen at least one source projecting an estimated sticker price of $45K. For that price, it better be 400HP with performance on par with the Supra, Cayman and BMW M2.

Turbo torque typically comes on at a much lower RPM than NA torque. Don’t just look at the rumored HP numbers.
