Turning 40 this month. I am doing a k24 turbo swap on a first gen BRZ. I would probably do a supercharged GR86 if I didn't have the current car. Nothing else really does it for me. Maybe a ND RF Miata or a Lotus Emira or maybe a Cayman, maybe.

Well, I have to admit that living in Georgia, most of my friends and coworkers daily drive some form of truck. Even most of the physicians at work drive either a truck or an SUV.

If I think about it, I can only think of 3 people besides me that drive a car. One daily drives a C7 Corvette, one drives a Mercedes, and one drives a 2012 Lexus but wants to trade up to a GEN3 CTS-V.

The lack of visibility is real.

We had a late 60’s to early 70’s aged physician drive a pristine Buick Grand National to work every day. Drive what makes you happy and forget everyone else, I say.

Yea. In the mid 80's I worked with a similarly aged executive who daily drove a 1949 Lincoln convertible (a Cosmopolitan if I remember correctly). He had owned it since new and had it ground up restored twice. He said he had no interest in ever owning any other car, and would rather put money into the one he loved.

I wish I had followed him and done that with my '85 MR2 but unfortunately I did not have the financial resources at the time, and no barn to park it in.

I'm coming from the evo world and my experience with that has me wanting something a lot simpler that I can actually learn to drive with(evo is basically ez mode)
I went from a 911 Twin Turbo to an FRS and don't consider it going backwards. The FRS got me on the track at 65 and I wouldn't trade it back for the 911.

I'm 54 and seriously considered a 981 Cayman. I wanted something to track. I think the GR86 is 80% of the Porsche at way less cost to buy and track.

In high school, there were the jocks and the nerds.
Guess it's still pretty much the same.
The Dons, Garlits and Prudhomme, were slamming quarters and there was a lot of HP sauce.

I hung mostly with the guys working on MG(A/B)s and Triumph TR3 or Spitfires and Alfas.
Those were much more useful on the backroads with no straight lines anywhere.

I'll turn 67 next month, have autocrossed several 1st Gens (SCCA class SSC) and my next car will either be a used Boxster S or a 2022 GR86. One is already appreciating in value, but at what maintenance and repair cost (including the infamous "Porsche Tax") and the other will most likely depreciate, since new cars do. Which will I enjoy more?

Let's face it, with a daily driver '02 BMW 330Ci that I really enjoy, the next purchase may be my last car. Miles should accumulate at well under 10k/year. Do I really care about depreciation? I certainly DO care about the possibility of popping a motor on a Porsche... LOL

Just turned 60 here and I agree with the "you're only as old as you feel" school of thought.

In September of 2014 bought a 2015 BRZ Series.Blue as an impulse buy. It was excellent out of the box and superlative after about $15K in performance upgrades.

About 5 years later I considered "upgrading" to the soon-to-be released and much anticipated Supra. However, when I inquired about putting down a deposit dealers were talking $25K ADMs - if they'd even talk to you at all!

I ended up buying an Alfa 4C Coupe instead - a car I had my eye on since the prototype debuted. There were only 11 new ones still available on dealer lots at the time (August 2019) and discounts could be negotiated (4Cs were very underappreciated until the last one sold and then they have been going up in value ever since).

So, to my of thinking, it made more sense to spend $70K on a semi-exotic $85K hand built, mid-engine Italian car made out of carbon fiber and aluminum than spending $80K on a $55K car, the Supra.

I have no regrets about buying the 4C but I do miss my 6-Speed manual BRZ that I finally sold last year for almost what I paid for it due to COVID-inflated used car pricing.

Keeping the 4C but will be definitely be replacing my gone but fondly remembered BRZ with the new one or new the GR86. Though I'll likely wait for the first special edition that offers Brembo (or equivalent) in a unique non-metallic colour to pull the trigger.

Have you tracked the 4C?
