Elio Motors - $6800 - 84 MPG

I'm intrigued by this car/motorcycle/3 wheeler! The more I look at it, the more I want it. Given that I commute 65kms one way to work and by myself, this thing makes a bunch of sense. The top speed is 100mph which is plenty for me and does something like 60mpg mixed driving. It's projected to MSRP at $6800usd which makes it even more attractive. Even more clever is that they're using parts-bin parts to construct 80% of the vehicle.

I know many will laugh at this little car, but having always been an ecomodder/hypermiler at heart and having owned a 92 Honda Civic VX which got 52mpg, the gas mileage on this Elio tickles my fancy.

The side profile of the windows reminds me a lot of our cars.

I'd soooooo buy this!!

Use it for a year or two as intended... then when I get bored of the thing, give it some aero, drop a Turbo Busa engine in it and go GTR/Ferrari hunting. The trolling that would be done with this thing ahah

This thing looks like it'd fold up like Reynold's wrap if hit by anything bigger than motorcycle. Good thing it's already shaped like a coffin.

If I had a short commute where it never snowed I would rock that in a second.

Would give it custom paint though.

It tackles snow! Not sure how it would fair in 12-14" of Canadian winter snow though. But it's front engine - FWD so I don't think it would do too badly. It's the 3rd wheel out back that has me sketched out on how it would handle a harsh snowfall.

Probably be fine as an in city commuter even in the winter then. You sure as hell would get some looks though.

3 of my coworkers already have deposits down on this bad boy. I'm intrigued as a cheap commuter option but I have to see them on the road first. I'm not buying into the "coming soon" aspect of this yet, I've seen too many of these go by the wayside.

Even though its 3 to 4 times the money ($20K range) the Polaris Slingshot is also very interesting to me. I'd probably go that route before buying this.

Because 1/3 the price and double the efficiency, I've got a deposit on one.

In city yes good. 30 mile commuter... I'd rather get a Prius plug in hybrid. 95/50 mpg...

For $7,000 I'd buy a Kawasaki Vulcan S
