Extra intake filter

Hello! I was researching the cabin sound tube delete this morning, and had a crazy idea which I am wondering if anyone else has tried. Has anyone tried putting an extra K&N filter on the port into the intake when they delete the cabin sound tube? I doubt it would add much power but I thought it might allow *some* extra airflow.

That would be kind of useless. Your engine is designed to vacuum a certain amount of airflow. The stand alone stock intake tube has enough diameter to fulfill the engine air intake needs.
The only reason after market intakes may be somewhat useful is that most are straight pipe tubing with no acoustic deadening ribs, which helps with more laminar air flow.

I figured there was a good reason. Just couldn't find the subject approached anywhere, thank you both for your input!

This is a pretty popular mod on the turbo 6 BMWs. Not sure if it would help us that much though.

Keep in mind that if you plan on experimenting with it, you have to add the extra intake BEFORE the MAF sensor, the sound tube plugs in AFTER.
