I think its more behind the scenes in the US, except with EVs where right now you have to get in the pre-line to be in the line.

Those that I know that talk to dealers about cars basically get that story though (everything we have is orderd, if you want a car that's what you'll need to do) except maybe for the highest volume cars. (There are over 2,000 Camrys listed on Toyota's site for Atlanta right now, some with immediate availability).

Personally I'm OK with it, as long as the service is available. If it weren't for the fact they build nothing I would drive, my next car would be a Tesla almost for the ability to order it online alone.

Ours was pretty much underground until the recent blitz of radio ads started. Now they are on after every couple of songs.

I am getting a bit annoyed of the wait and I just got a much better job, wife says I should just get the 6cyl supra. But I would rather get the GR86 and have some spending money for parts. A lot of the dealers in Austin have huge waits.

Are the Supras even more available? Could the wait be just as long?

There's 3 6cyl within 20 miles of me so I think they are quite a bit easier to get.

If the manual version does come out that will probably be a nightmare to get. But I am actually ok with the 8 speed auto unless I could find a manual. The GR86/BRZ I only want with the manual though.

If it works for you, the Supra isn't a bad choice. No manual, no backseat, not much usable trunk space made the Supra a non-starter for me.

All the Supra’s I’ve seen around here are outrageously priced. The markup on those is something else $55,000 for a 2.0?

I think the Supra would appeal to very limited audience, maybe people into BMW a bit. I already had my 2017 BRZ when I finally saw a red Supra at the Toyota dealer. It felt more claustrophobic and compared to the BRZ, a trip to Costco or the grocery store would be a big challenge in the Supra. Another turn-off for me are the non-functional vent styling stuff. For me it would make detailing the car more time consuming. On that same visit when I was just lowering the hood on the Supra, I caught a glimpse of a car all the way down on the far end of the showroom. I made my way there past two eager salespersons trying to hijack me and lo and behold there it was: A Toyota 86 Hakone Special. If I did not already have a twin, I would have gotten out my checkbook so fast you would have whiplash if you were standing close by. Of course there is a boatload of subjectivity and a dash of objectivity in all this, but to make a long story short, I am completely over the newest generation of the Supra. A week or so ago I was coming back into town running an errand and getting some break-in miles on the clock when I spotted a Hakone in the side mirror. I let it catch up and pass by so that I can take it all in. OK, so it isn't a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, you know what I mean.

When I had a job where the boss was telling me that it would be a good thing to get to work on time, I bought a 1973 Honda Civic, my first Japanese car. $2,350. In 1974 when the oil embargo hit, people on line at the gas station were offering me $400 more than I paid for the car new and their Buick in trade. I resisted the offer as tempting as it was. No, homey don't play that.

What was it that inspired you to get that car? Did you see it first and say, "Get out of my way, it's mine. Precious." or were you going to get an 86 anyway and the Hakone was icing on the cake?

When the Lava hit high miles and the word on the street indicated I would not care for the 22s I went shopping for a new one. Was going to get a BRZ but on a whim checked with Toyota and they found the last remaining Hakone MT in the country for me. All in all it was just an exercise in great timing and luck. I did say way back when the green was only a Japan only special edition and we didn't know about the Hakone that I wanted that colour.
