I did this tonight. Plugged the resonator hole with a rubber plug. It sounds like there is a lot more intake noise. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

Forget pics. We need sound clips!

My concern with unplugging these helmholtz resonators is that they have been carefully selected to remove certain tones so that the final note plumbed to the inside is the one they wanted us to hear.

Blocking them off will certainly make it louder but will it make it sound good?

Sounds fine on mine! They more than likely used them to reduce external noise. The only one that may be for the noise pipe is the one in the intake pipe itself but I noticed no real change in removing that either.

Makes you wonder why they went to the trouble of working out the volumes, making and fitting them? They just clutter the engine bay up with cheap plastic.
Perhaps they engineered these first and decided to try the sound tube option later, liked it and didn't want to mess with the result by deleting the resonators?

I think there's possibly more to it... it's not just sound waves but also airwaves. When the TB goes from open to shut there may be some reflected air and they could be used to cancel these pulses so you don't get interference when the throttle opens again. Tbh even if that's true you more than likely won't notice it. It's just a theory but possible. Without a design engineer on hand then we'll never know..... I could be completely wrong

I've removed the sound tube long ago, so what they designed to be pumped into the cabin doesn't matter to me.

It doesn't sound much different below 3500 RPM, but at full throttle it sounds like a true cold air intake.

I'll be smoothing out the inside of my airbox's next weekend with something and deleting the snorkel resonators...... Then i'll take a video also! Do you actually have to remove the bumper to get out the snorkel or can you just pull it out?

The TRD Griffton, Gazoo Racing Nurburbring race cars don't have those resonators so i think their purpose are only for noise/sound and not performance.

Lots of noises, but the car does not move. This reminds me of my 2000 Contour SVT.

Sounds good! Is that without the noise generator?

Yes, the noise generator was taken out long ago. I have the Perrin intake tube & aFe dry filter also.
