Here in Ontario dealers used to use the Black Book for trade in values. It was a true reflection of what similar cars were selling for at dealer auctions. Now dealers are using one of several on-line insta auctions. They take a couple of quickie phone photos and a brief description and up load it. All the dealers in the area can bid on the car right then and there. After about 20 to 30 minutes the salesman will come back with a couple of pitifull offers. He’ll tell you that that’s all your car is worth. If you don’t like it then sell it privately or come back later. If you go to several dealers on the same day the offers will go down as everyone knows you are trying to sell your car.

Yeah, it's a shame. I think KBB originally gave me a sale estimate of about 10-20% more than I got for it. So it goes.

Ridiculous. That should only be the case if it's the top trim and you're in an area with high tax as the out the door total. Top trim is about $47k msrp...

Most dealers near me are doing msrp including the one I got the car from. But there's one where they said they'd still do a markup lol.

Just GR trim. Also, they want 100k for Manual Zupras

What do you mean GR trim? It's basically its own separate car.

There are three trims, Core, Premium, Circuit/Premium Plus (depending on MY).

Core is the cheapest.

Core/base. The cheapest. The circuit is unattainable. I know people who have money to dispose and they told me will never pay premium for corolla

Most people that have money "to dispose" are smart enough not to pay a premium for any vehicle.

The only cars I have paid MSRP for is the 1985 MR2 and the 2013 FRS. Every other car I've owned was under MSRP or KBB (if used).

That's probably true for a "need" vehicle, but not for a "want" vehicle. If I had the money for a $500,000 car, and I really wanted a $250,000 911 GT3 RS why should I care about paying a $100,000 markup to get it now vs. waiting a few years (which in this particular case might not even be any cheaper used)? The same person can shell out $100,000 on a Rolex every year but still fly economy class. It's all about priorities and desires.

Because paying a 40% markup on anything is idiotic no matter how much I want it?

Yea, I know there are people that will do it, and that's fine, it's a personal thing, spend your money the way you want. It's just not something I would do.

Maybe it's totally different in other parts of the country still but when I was checking for incoming allocations back in October, only one dealer in my region out of five I contacted was charging any kind of markup. And they insisted the markup was only for 2025 MY.

I know when the car launched it was marked up everywhere but I'm not sure that's still the case.

A lot of dealers still have 2024's sitting on their lots.
