One of my best stories:
In my first years of autocross with the SCCA (1981-2), I became friends with this couple that had a real Cobra. It was a factory, track only 289, black with straight black side pipes. At one autocross at the Alameda county fairgrounds, we had a very poor turnout. We finished all our runs, and had plenty of day left, so we just started having fun runs. One of the funniest things was the tow vehicle challenge. Hilarious! Then the owner of the Cobra comes to me as I'm packing up my stuff and says, "You want to take the Cobra for a run?" Yes please!!!!!! super cool. It was like driving a wild animal. It was loud as hell when getting on it, and twice as loud when you let up. You could feel It to your core. It took everything you had to hang on to the wheel. Not a ladies car! Only Cobra I've ever driven, or even been in. Good times. I wonder what that car is worth today. |

To this day the hardest and most forceful acceleration I've felt was in the passenger seat of a Cobra.

Oh, fancy... You had electric start on yours. I had to crank the two we used.
I did however learn the correct way to crank. Most everyone I knew/know and even TV, movies and Youtube videos do it wrong. You place one open hand under the other palms up and thumbs facing the engine. Find the compression spot coming from the bottom up and with one clean pull bring the crank up to top center. repeat as needed. NEVER, close your thumbs around the crank handle. Never try to start by pushing the crank down. Never stand so close that you might be hit by the handle. |

OK, round two here.
This was my first (and last) built car. Yep, the "mill" was off of my grandmothers washing machine (had a kick starter - ![]() My mother got really pissed at me one day I took it out on the road in front of our farm, just got up to speed when the steering rope broke, I swerved across the road and some ass hole in a car damn near run over me - ![]() |

@humfrz, ever drive a tank in you military days? Always wanted to drive a tank. Closest I ever got was driving a Case track tractor pulling a Mott cutting all the tall grass on the hills around Foothill college.

I did get to play with a M113 for an hour or so once. I chased a rabbit through the bush. He won. ![]()

OK, now for my third vehicle. Yep, a 1948 Chevrolet, which was my main ride from age 14 to age 24.
