Skimming the thread here, it sounds like folks just want STX...
I think a realistic spec class would be Street Class rules, but just a class of only FRS/BRZ/GT86 with its own PAX. The only exception I would add is you can use any parts from any other twin, so people don't cry about TRD Parts, Gearing, etc... This would make it so no other car could show up and ruin the class, such as the ND Miata. |

I have nothing against the idea. But, this happens in (almost) every street class. Does the SCCA then make a spec class for the ND, once its reign is over? I don't know the answer...but, this is one reason I stopped running street/stock classes 3-4 years ago.

The logistics of this sound way too complicated. I think it would be better for them to just create a new street class, move D-H down a letter, and pull some of the current C and D cars into the new D.
If you look at class participation at nationals they have several street classes that are overly represented vs. the others.

Personally, I think a Spec class between DS and STX would be great.
DS really only gets expensive when you go with high-end shocks like MCSs. For STX, when you factor in popular mods like the AP Racing BBK, wider wheels and tires, etc. the cost gap is clear. Not only that, but for many who dual duty their twins, you lose a fair amount of practicality by making the jump to STX, but at the same time, you miss out on a lot of good shit staying in DS. If I had any say in a Spec class or a new class between Street and Street Touring, I would propose something like the following: - 8" wide wheels max (+/- Xmm from stock offset) - 200TW tires minimum - Spec dampers (OTS Yellows or something similar) - Spec lowering spring - Spec camber plate (or like anything aside from the Raceseng Cascam plate) - Open camber bolt - Open rear LCA - Open sway bars front and rear - Whiteline poly diff inserts - Whiteline poly subframe inserts - Whiteline poly transmission mount insert - Open intake - Open catback exhaust - Spec tune - Open brake pads In my mind, the biggest issue with STX is cost, and the biggest issue with DS is camber limitation. The Spec class could slot right in between with much more lenient camber mods and also the ability to run the Whiteline bushings that are affordable and serve as a solid foundational basis for a dual duty twin. |

To me, the word "open" does not belong anywhere in a spec class. Change all your opens to spec *something* and sounds good. One of the goals (I think) behind a spec class, is to take away all the guess work.
Whatever comes of it, I'll be staying in STX ![]()

Have you tried them? They're kind of fantastic on this car. The only reason I'm not putting my car in DS right now is that I don't want to take out those inserts.

The only reason I could see them making a class for the twins is to create a street class where the twins would be competitive. I doubt they are going to make an STX-lite class to create a "cool setup" class just for us.
If it's a street class for the twins, then allowing the best "street" parts from all 86's makes sense and won't require new structures for policing. I also think it would be fair to have a participation requirement to keep the class. The fact that there are so many people that want to run street in the twins is really the only justification for carving out a spot just for our car. |

It was just a rough outline lol.
I don't think most are able to achieve -2.5 with just crash and camber bolts, which is why I would want plates. I don't care for intakes either. The DS rules of a drop-in filter and silicone tube are good enough for me, just thought I'd include it. As for the tune, I would want it not because of power, but for the softer rev limiter and slightly sharper throttle sensitivity. And @M0nk3y, those bushings aren't "stupid stuff", nor do they add much complexity. They're affordable and easy to install while increasing bushing life and increasing performance, but hey, to each his own. Like I said, what I laid out was just a rough outline. |
