Paddle shifters: Do you like them stationary or dynamic?
I have an auto FR-S, and the paddles are dynamic. I think for day-to-day driving, this is more ideal.

The boot shifter is for any situation you can't paddle in.

I've never bothered with paddles.. Why pay more for an auto when you can just get a manual?

Weird. I saved like $1.5k getting a manual. I almost didn't, though.. It's my first manual, I had to get a friend to drive it off the lot lol cause I had no idea how to drive it.

ARGH!!!
I wish I knew why they mounted them on the steering wheel. It's why I don't bother using them. As Jeremy Clarkson put it: "They're never where you've left them!" I DO like this particular automatic gearbox though. Left in "Sport Mode", it's actually very quick, allowing me to merge onto the freeway in the morning while holding an open cup of hot tea with milk and sugar. Calms me down in the morning and keeps me from picking fights with Canadians driving 20mph under the limit.

I prefer that they don't exist, but if they have to be there, then stationary. They're totally useless when the steering wheel has turned when they're on the wheel, because you'll never find them.

I test drove the paddle shift auto and got my fingers caught when palming the steering wheel. Not much fun when rwd drifting.

Technically on a track you don't want to shift mid corner anyways. Downshift before the corner and up shift after. It's the quicker way around. So stationary would be better.

I always thought that was to prevent upsetting the car, and if the transmission is fast enough that shouldn't be a problem. It could be an issue if you are entering the corner without a lot of revs left to go and power out and need a gear change with the wheel still turned.

Move with the wheel, so they are always with my hands. Can't think of a race car that isn't that way.

I am a novice with an AT and honestly hardly use the paddles. I always use the shift knob. I gave used them for quick down shifts for passing which you can do when the shift knob is still in automatic mode.
I'm not sure if stationary would be mush better. |
