Paint Chip :(
So I noticed a bird made a mess on the side of my car this morning, wiped it off and there was a chunk of paint missing underneath.
First thought: what the hell are the birds around here eating? Second thought: where's a good place to get this fixed? (South SF Bay Area) My car also has the Xzilon paint protection thingy the dealer sticks on, which supposedly has a warranty for things like this. Has anyone ever dealt with trying to submit a claim before to that company? Any tips? edit: Link to crappy phone picture here: http://imgur.com/Us4c5 Last edited by jlu; 01-04-2013 at 07:50 PM. |

Did you soak the poop in hot water or detailer before you just wiped it off? Bird droppings typically have hard substances, such as pebbles, in them... simply wiping it off would leave scratches in the paint, or even worse, lost paint.
Take a picture of the mark left behind. If you are lucky, it just faded the paint, which could be cured by a simple buff. If the clean coat came off that would surprise me, and if the paint came off, I'd be amazed.

No, I should've done at least used hot water, but the car was wet already, it wasn't a big spot, and I was late for work so I just used a towel to (gently) try to wipe it off. I felt a little pop and was like "ohshi-"
Sigh. I want to go back in time and slap myself. Although if I could go back in time, there's probably a lot more useful things to do. Picture coming momentarily. |

Yeah I know in the grand scheme of things it's really minor, but I've grown so attached to my FR-S that I think I overreact to anything that damages it.
Link to crappy phone picture here: http://imgur.com/Us4c5 It's actually dark gray showing through in the chip, and there's a noticeable difference between the paint and (what I think is) the metal. Feel free to let me know how I'm freaking out over nothing, I know, I know. I just want to get my baby patched up and looking beautiful again. -_- Just don't tell me my FR-S has herpes, I don't think I want to live in that world. |

I love imperfections... I welcome them. I've already got a few I don't plan to fix!
