Gen 1 vs gen 2

I have a gen 1. It is stock. I wish it had a bit more power. Have you driven both on the track and noticed a difference in power? Any difference in handling?

Yes, the 2nd gen has more power, and you'll feel the stiffer chassis.

More power, stiffer chassis, more grip. Feels more comfortable too.

First time I drove a 2nd gen at an autocross, I literally had a smile across my face with the power it had. As far as the handling, I can't really comment as mine 1st gen is on TW200 and the test car was on the stock tires. They were very similar IMO - at least not enough that you'd want to trade up based on that.

You can add power to your first gen, but a header + tune isn't going to net you stock gen 2 numbers. If you go E85, grab a few whp from some other exhaust piping changes... I think you're still going to need to do other more expensive things like a carbon driveshaft, etc. to start lightening things to gain more power. There's a video that just came out on the Everyday Driver channel that talks about making 220whp, full NA, and basically make FA24 power.

Problem is, tuning for the 2nd gen is just coming out and that motor is likely going to make another 15-20whp with just a header and probably start hitting 240whp (215-220 stock). You're just simply not going to hit that with an NA 2.0 easily.

... but then price and available for a 2022/2023 comes to play too. Personally, I see a header and tune as still an option if you're just looking to get some more kick for the track or street. Certainly cheaper than financing a new vehicle.

Honestly gen 1s are fantastic track cars still. If you need a dual purpose car, gen 2 is the way to go.
