I actually used the PureONE filter in my car after I rebuilt the engine. I only ran it for a few days before doing a filter/oil change. I need to cut it open and see how it looks.
I have rebuilt probably 20 engines over the years and never once though of doing this. It could tell you a lot more than just looking at what can easily be seen.

Not even sure how much you would see from cutting a filter open. I just send in my oil for analysis each change and get detailed reports.

My father got hundreds of thousands of miles are various cars with orange Fram filters. Not saying they are a good filter, but it’s likely your OCI, not your filter.

I use pure one or Oem. No need to spend on higher cost filters unless maybe you are tracking the car. But no big deal if you do, it’s not a lot of money over the life of the car.

I was talking about the construction. In particular how much media is in them. The cheap Fram filters for example have very little media in them.

I use OEM. It's only, like, $8 from the dealership for the filter and washer.

I bought a couple of K&N filters on sale and I will keep using them for another year. I trust them. The other one I check is Mobil-1.

Guys, check with your dealer which oil filters (if any) don't void your engine warranty.

Uhhh... what are you talking about? No filter voids your warranty so long as it is designed for your vehicle. Even then it won't VOID anything. They would have to provide evidence that the oil filter caused the failure.

Do you also tell people they have to check with the dealer before using an aftermarket brand of oil? Don't be silly.

I been using purolator pure one, buy a dozen at a time. Got several left for my BRZ. Had to buy a new daily and as I understand they don't make the same yellow pureones anymore? Not sure, i got 2 months before i have to do an oil change. I'll probably stick to OEM for my daily as i plan to do 4-6 month oil changes.

Interested to see other posts. Ibwould go Mobil 1 but they were like $10 a piece last i checked, too much IMO.

Oh really? Who can say if an oil filter is designed for your vehicle or not? The issue is with the pressure relief valve. It is known that Subaru has a higher bypass pressure spec and if the filter is not the correct one, you take the risk your oil to stay more time in the bypass mode (i.e. stay unfiltered).

Even if my dealer said that another oil filter doesn't void my warranty, I wouldn't do it if I cared of my engine's health. What's the point to save just a few dollars on such a high importance peripheral?

The WIX bypass pressure matches the OEM filter.

There are laws in the US preventing dealers from denying claim because of aftermarket parts like filters. The dealers still try to pull one over on people though.

Don't use wix if you have a oil cooler of some sort. * basically a "flat top" that sticks out

The seal on those it's pretty badly designed * cuz it's flat & not tapered....even stock oem filter seals much better. Friends had those & they would just leak oil. I guess it really depends on the design/quality of oil cooler sandwich plate itself but ppl should know.

if you are stock in that department then it's totally ok to just run whatever.

As for myself I been using cusco magnetic oil filters, but I would use any magnetic oil filter really.
