Turbos are easy to get if you ever had a failure and you can easily make a v band set up to swap turbos ....the hks supercharger is a hks product only so not so easy to get and are 2 times the cost of a turbo ... they dont put stress on your accessories belt aswell. Turbos can make a shitload more power if you can afford to build motor and trans clutch ect. But you can dial back a turbo to run low boost and have a good tune where your engine is safe. Superchargers can only boost by rpm of pulley .... so smaller pulley smaller belt more boost..... but turbos also have very little lag now a days with the ball bearing turbos over journal bearing. So there is way more pros to cons with turbo.... this is my 9th car i have modified 5 were turboed and probably the most anoying build i have done but i keep it going cause im in to deep now lol...
I have spend well over 9k into my hks kit cause it broke 3 times in 2 years...all different failures fist time was a annulus failure the second time was a shaft and 3rd was a roller bearing....

My 2nd unit is dead too. Less than 3000 km this time. 100% the same gentle death - just stopped blowing - pressure on the gauge doesn’t go above 0. No need to open this piece of crap. Over $10k of loss and frustration towards this Highly Krappy Shit producer. Will deinstall this junk and sell the car. Never ever again any piece of HKS on any of my cars!

I wonder why the same person experienced the same failure (if it is). I have my fuel cutoff set at 7000 RPM and if you have an annulus failure again I'd be willing to bet overrevving was a contributing factor. Things like higher heat, friction, all internal contributing factors.

My unit is running fine and aside from the stupid expensive traction fluid that nobody has the balls to substitute, I have no complaints.

I am hoping that with reasonable use I will get many more years from my supercharger. The car is now almost 7.5 years old and I hope to keep it for several more enjoyable driving seasons.

If I was starting from scratch now I'd probably go turbo, where there are a whole different set of issues to contend with. Heat, still a big one though.

I run my HKS V2 since more over than 20k kms with any noise, issues. I think might be useful investigate, for people with these failures, HOW was performed the install, How is tuned.

On my personal experience, I installed 3 HKS SC all of them with any issues with heavy (track and urban) mileage up today.
Install is easy BUT you need to follow strictly the directions on belt, tensioner, attention to fixing nuts and bolts.
Another big issue might be referred to tune: Ecutek offers some SAFE TABLES to protect engine and subsequential torque on all system.

My cut-off is at 7500. There is nothing in the SC manual about setting the rev limit below the stock level. Even HKS' own graph shows it up to 7500.



My car is equipped with HKS oil cooler and TrackSpec hood vents, oil never went above 125 Celsius. VTA catch can etc - you can see on the video. Car has never been started with outside temperature below freezing. With the dead of this one, the failure ratio of HKS GTS7040L in Russia I personally aware of is now 100% - 7 dead units. Installed by different people in different cities. Both on stock engines and build engines w/o restrictor. The design of this thing if flawed. It's a fact. I will make a poll now for HKS users - let's see how it looks over time.

I agree with you that the installation part that may be the cause, but tuning cannot be an issue if the blower stops working. If you grenade the engine maybe, but if the SC stops making boost it's a mechanical problem.

Beside that I think it's a issue with the GTS7040L itself... somebody should check what changes were made with the GT2 version.

I'd advise any future installs to have their tuner set the fuel cutoff at 7000 rpm.
Efferalgan setting his at 7500 and having multiple failures is a pretty strong clue. Also, make sure you use the proper viscosity traction fluid.

Mine was set at 7200 mine was a direct failure from shock the first time the engineer said it was a peice destine to fail and said they all will eventually cause the design... i think thats why rotrex have there shit figured out on the drive side... they dont use a threded cap with a oil sling. They have a longated hole that the drive side seats into it is also lighter rotating assembly. The second time mine failed was a bearing issue no install issues since i pretty much rebuilt everything on this kit (redesigned) the flaws and a bearing ended up letting the turbine wheel hit the housing and snapped the shaft... also the shaft has a failure point aswell. Cross etched to break under stress....

the first time it broke it was 13k on it and second time was only got 8k then the third time i got 17k on it... i went to turbo cause i can rebuild my turbo for 100 bucks and its reliable and i dont have to fuck with pulleys and belts and i dont have any lag cause the ball bearing turbos are awesome... so in my books it has the upperhand i just hipe i can save someone the mistake i make by wasting a shit ton of money on this kit

HKS GT2 Kit

For those curious on how the new HKS GT2 kits are doing so far.

Tomei UEL (Ceramic Coated)
TOmei Over Pipe (Ceramic Coated)
Stock everything else on exhaust
K&N Air Filter
Stock Fuel System

Weather:
Hot and Humid as Ballz in Houston (95-100~ish)

Driving Impressions coming later as i didn't have time to really get into it.
