I can see that the HKS800 TRB 86 is using a 2.5L motor with a HKS supercharger to develop 800ps.

is this the HKS V3 kit here? can it support 800ps? what would it do on a built 2L motor?

No affense but I am sure glad I went with a used sprintex 210 kit. Bought it used from a fellow member with 11,000 miles on it. It developed a small oil leak at the bypass valve. Not having any warranty, other senior members sent me to Jon Bond performance. I hab the front drive freshened up and new gaskets for the complete kit. Total 380.00 if you guys stay with this platform I don’t know if Jon supports this charger, but if your out of warranty I would look him up.

He is the premier supercharger / turbo rebuilder in the U.S. He ships world wide. Go to his website chk him out. As a side note he is great to talk to on the phone. Don’t let anybody fool you, every supercharger out their that I’m aware of have some sort of issue. Example even the hellcat units that are out of warranty or voided warranty are having issues.
The first mopar batches were causing the engines to hydroloc. The bypass seals were failing after hard runs and setting over night or 8 hours. Unsuspecting owners go out crank up to drive only to have the engine lock up.
Your not going to hear that all over the web unless you are one of those forum members or a mopar nut like me. You talk with Jon Bond, he knows all those nuances pretty much about all of them. Possibly he can save you money and anxiety.

Jonbondperformance.com. Jon@jonbondperformance.com 515-200-9992 Hope this might help. Best regards. Steve

It comes with an HKS Flash Editor. Tunes are flashed onto the editor then onto the ECU. If I remember correctly... A 91, 93, E85 tunes are provided... as well as a spare slot for custom tunes.

That's a totally different kit, v3 is for US market only & i didn't hear that many good things about v3 kit's longevity to be honest.

chaoskaze, Hey Partner now that we are talking about the v3 kit, I thought the rep for HKS used to be on this site all of the time. I now he was always letting people know that HKS was going to be there for them supporting. I cant remember hearing from him on here for a while now. Don't know if he is still working with them or moved on. The kit looked fatoryish and price wise was really tempting. I was ready to pull the trigger until I started ready about that traction fluid issues.
In 1993 I bought a 1990 VW Corrado with the G-Ladder supercharger. The car was great but after the 2nd supercharger, I raised hell with them and they swapped the car for a 1993 Vr6 SLC model. That engine is was fantastic. I believe the g-ladder had the same type of drive as the HKS set up/ who knows they could have copied the Germans on this only made it a little more dependable. Don't know just speculative on my part.
My problem with the centrifugal superchargers build the boost more to the late midrange to top end of the power band . They are week as heck on the bottom end you might as well go Turbo. There again you have all type of power at top, but not worth a damn on public streets and having to constantly doing 80 plus mph. Its going to kill you in tickets and drive your insurance up.
The beauty of the Sprintex or Elderbrock set ups is the power (boost) is right there damn near from idle to 6000 rpm. unless its a dedicated track car, these units are fantastic for DD drivers.

Well... as long as you buy the option with the flash editor. It's usually about $300 more.

It's alive!!

Wanted to go to the Toronto Auto Show today, the last day. My son wasn't interested, he made plans with a friend.

So, rather than look at cars by myself, and since they aren't taking deposits on Supras yet (LOL), I decided to re-install my replacement supercharger! April 1st it's back on the road after sitting ~8 months. I was concerned I'd forget something.

So far, perfect! I was expecting some type of issue but none. Cruised around my subdivision, idled a long time as well and after two hours I am confident it's good. Went to 5500 RPM many times.

Knowing the unit pretty well now, I will say if it had been trouble free the performance is great, no question whatsoever. The power feels quite similar to the 2018 STI, albeit very different torque curve. Steering gear ratio 13.1:1 happens to be the same as the STI too. It's like a baby 2 door STI.

HKS is known for turbochargers. This car would be awesome turbo'd. My choice not to was based on lack of familiarity with aftermarket systems combined with more moving parts to think about. I didn't do my own initial install, but the supercharger looked like something I could tackle if need be. When issues arose I did do all the work, again without a hoist much easier than turbo.

Do it again? HKS turbo FTW

Or a new Supra...

Glad your all up and running again! Look forward to seeing your car running around the neighbourhood. I know you (among a few others) have had quite the saga with the 7040L.

My install of S/C customized wrinkle black HD paint...tune still in progress by Fensport UK (4th version release testing up to 7,2k rpm next up to 7,650 with ultimate version) Ecutek RaceRom
It took me more than 8 hrs to install due to full revision of injectors and sparks change (HKS), outside temp sensor relocation and so on.

Here the full install manual of HKS 12001-AT009 (E04215-T59044-00 rev 3-3.05) (latest release of 2017/04 V2 7040L)
