I wonder how involved it would be to replace the HKS blower with a Rotrex one. I can't imagine it's rocket science.

Looks like the Rotrex ones have their own problems as well.

Pretty sure my second kit is about to die. same approx miles as when the last kit started acting up. starting to see less vacuum again as well as air being forced back over the compressor blades making the distinct sound on deceleration and in between shifts. replaced all couplers and vacuum lines. no change. boost pressure seems to be the same but at idle i read -14 instead of the usual -23 i used to see. i also am getting a "system too rich" code leading me back to the supercharger failing like last time. not enough air being supplied.

thoughts? im bailing on this kit/car after this one i think. its become too much.

Hi, i do not own a subaru/toyota.

I own a Honda S2000, with the hks supercharger kit. My supercharger failed in what looks to be a similar manner to you guys, i have not taken it to pieces to confirm.

How many cases total are their of failures? on the S2000 side their is mine, and my friends that i know of.

Did anything come of the upgraded piece?

Not sure if any of you guys had this problem, but the provided BOV did not work with my car. When i came off throttle i would get a constant steam train flutter, i had this issue for 6 months until i upgraded the bov to a Tial, not sure if any of you guys had similar? and not sure if this contributed to the chargers demise. Im just worried that this will happen again with another charger.

It lasted 14 months, Roughly 5.5k miles.

To be fair, HKS Europe have been very good so far. They are supplying a new charger FOC under warranty due to my very limited use. Which most of the miles i have done have been very tame, with not much hard driving.

I am just worried i will face the same thing again in another 12-16 months time going by what i am reading in this thread!

Meanwhile HKS USA is looping back and forth between existent and non-existent .. and they cannot even answer my simple requests for data on their supercharger and upgrades.

What an embarrassment.

I called HKS because I really like their kit and when I asked about parts and support I could not get a straight answer and also said most people who have issues with supercharger is user error. I was also told they are not flashing anymore for 93

Sucks because I like HK and would like to continue to support but the backing here in the US is just not there.

Don't buy the hks unit I have it and I would go any other route ! customer service is a joke and the fact they don't sell any parts that are needed for self repair is ridiculous. I have had to get stuff manufactured to fix my charger (twice)

Also user error is bullshit!!! I had a engineer look at the charger design of the annulus and he laughed at it and said it was hilarious that they would use that piece of tin to drive that whole charger with that amount of threads ..... he said it was mind blowing And then I showed him a rotrex charger and he said that it was the way it should have been for the hks.

It's a real shame. I love the packaging of this kit. It looks tidy in the engine bay. Now I have to worry about this time bomb bolted to my engine.

I have about a year with about 10k miles and 3 track days on mine and it's fine so far (knock wood).
