Seems the wife wanted more out of our back deck. This has now turned into “the never ending deck projects”. First she took left overs and built a gate. Then she used off cuts and left overs plus two metal frames (that I wanted for projects of my own) and built a couple of tables. She painted a couple of our old plastic chairs and made a breakfast area. It was great watching the sun rise with a coffee and a bagel. But there was still more leftovers so she built a post light and a removable filler panel that when the gate is opened 90 degrees she can use to block off the east end of the deck to keep the dogs in.
However, that wasn’t enough. She then decided that we needed a gazebo! The first one we bought, (and had a devil of a time arranging plus paid more than we expected) was delivered several days before the installation crew were to put it up. It had a sloped roof designed to affix to the back of the house. It had coloured, translucent sliding roof panels. When they got there the crew could not install it because it had to go up before the railings. The roof panels slide in from the back and it has to be a minimum of 4ft from the wall to do that. I won’t go into the long story about returning it and NOT getting all our money back.
So we went to another store and bought a more traditional gazebo as recommended by the installation crew. They came back (just two guys) and put it up and lag bolted it into place in less than five hours. Our next door neighbour and her handyman friend took an entire weekend and used words I’d never heard come from that side of our property in the 35+ years we’ve lived here. Plus hers was smaller than ours.
Next we have to replace the outside lights and hang lights inside the gazebo.

Well, it's that time of year to put up the pool on our deck. However, first my son-in-law wants to replace a few rotten boards. So, the pressure from the granddaughters is on him, before I fill the pool.

It's a 35 year wooden deck, 12 ft off the ground, and the pool holds 1,000 gal of water.

Yep, you did the math right - what could have gone wrong with a few rotten boards? -

The pool is up and filled. I can't believe the 7 year old granddaughter actually got in that cold water for about an hour.

At 4 years old, my hot tub needed some maintenance. All the 2" jets were crumbling away and needed to be replaced. I had no idea that jets wore out. I guess the calcium eats the plastic away. All new jets thanks to spadepot.com.

The cover was shot, and saturated, and looking pretty bad. It weighed a ton. Found a local place that makes them to order.

Got it scrubbed clean. New jets installed. Tub is like new, sparkly clean.

I used to think a pool was a lot of work (and expense), but a hot tub is just as much.

Now I even have a cover for my cover.

They could, but, they wouldn't. However, anything you would want done involving an i-pad or i-phone, they would be right on top of.
