This a good price for E85?
This is new territory for me so I don't know whats too expensive, here in Plano, and Irving E85 is 3.19 - 3.29 Is that good? Premium right now is 3.87
I generally average 28.5 on 93 so 13.5 cents a mile while with E85 at 3.19 would be 18.2 cents per mile (estimating 17.5 MPG). Your thoughts? Last edited by Gregory Gawaran; 09-22-2012 at 08:18 PM. |

93 = 13 cents a a mile
e85 = 18.2 cents a mile so the premium is actually cheaper. Is your car stock running E85 or did you get it tuned? if it's stock getting it tuned might increase the gas mileage on e85. |

No I know E85 is more expensive for mile, I just don't know if 3.19 for E85 is a good price, im asking since 4-5cents more per mile for the boost the motor gets running E85 is not a bad trade off.

It's a good deal if you are using e85 while racing. If you are using it for street driving, no...that's not a good deal. You may as well be driving a 5.0 Mustang (cost wise).
At least it's cheaper though. Here it's about the same friggen price as regular gas.

you guys running e85 on the stock tuned engine? I am just wondering since here in the summer you can get e85 for almost half the price of 93 gas. I seen e85 for like $2.49 a gallon while 93 was $3.79

Its a tune. Visconti is the guy I went with. I am apart of the group buy but I still have to purchase E85 Tune. I am doing the math when I get home with what people as a whole are averaging. As of right now it seems like getting the E85 tune will be worth it, especially if some people are seeing 20-25 MPG with E85.

can you still run regular 93 octane with this tune if the prices jump for ethanol or if it's not available?

That price is better than here ($3.39 just last night vs $3.89), but not great. $3.00 would be great right now. $3.19 for E85 vs $3.87 for Premium means you're going to be paying significantly(>5%) more for E85.
E85 has 72% of the BTU so even with 28.5 on Premium Gasoline, should be 20.5MPG on E85. I get 15.6 Cents per mile on E85. Still more expensive but how much is it worth to you? Myself, I'd eat the extra cost if E85 is 85% of Premium. Never run Gasoline on an E85 tune. |
