I'm pretty much the same way at work. I'm also the last resort for when shit goes sideways so, while there's a sense of "production" urgency, by the time folks come to me, they've already tried their rote stuff.

Well, let me tell you, from the prices that I've seen in earlier posts, the price shot up big time! They quoted me just over $1300,just to replace f'n spark plugs!

Needless to say,I'm not going to Toyota for that service. I called a couple of Subie tuner shops near me. One quoted $598,and the other quoted $265. I'm not so hard up for money that I'd rather have busted knuckles and a few hours of aggravation rather than just paying $265 for someone else to do it.

It's pretty simple job to do yourself. Follow the video below and you'll be fine.

Tips: Use a old 3" extension or a cheap 3" extension and grind down the ball on the end of the extension. This makes removing the extension from the deep socket while it is in the spark plug socket a thousand times easier.

Stuff some rags down below the spark plug socket this will help you when you eventually drop a tool so it does not end up landing down below on the skid plate. I'll save a lot of time not having to search for fallen tools trust me.

It's a very trustworthy shop. It's P&L Motorsports.I live about 15 minutes away from their facility.

They quoted including the plugs for $110 for all four. Pretty sure they quoted so low because they've got the service down to probably under an hours. That's my best guess as to why it's so low. And why would they expect an I4 when I told them what car it was?

But what it does take is space to work on it,which is something I don't have right now. My driveway is on a pretty steep incline and I wouldn't feel comfortable putting a jack under the car in any capacity. $265 is well worth the aggravation.

Yeah, go for it. That $265 is well worth it.

Was just guessing as to the reason the quote would be so low. You know.. opinions and assholes... If they truly know the car, go for it.

I DO sympathize with the workspace issue. I spent a score of my young adulthood in the same boat, working on motorcycle engines in an apartment, converted my scuba rig to use for spray painting. For me, home ownership means having my own garage. It's heaven.

Having seen your garage.
Not sure heaven is the right descriptor

Two places I let out the crazy, my office, and my garage.

...and the coffee table, but I have standing orders to clean it for company.

I live in a townhouse that only has a one car garage(and a steep driveway, like I previously mentioned),which typically wouldn't be too small for tooling around, but there's just too much other stuff in the way to make it work.

It's fine. I don't much like working on cars anymore anyway. I always felt good after fixing whatever issue(s),but the anxiety of the possibility of messing something up to the level that it would have to be towed away for someone else to work on it anyway, that always weighed heavy on me. And with this being my only car, well,I'd just rather pay someone else to do anything that might take more than an hour to do.

So funny. Sometimes when I'm working on mine I just lie underneath it, marveling at the fact that I finally outright own a machine that isn't a rescue project.

In a weird way it's kind of boring. Not exactly, but I don't know how to express what I mean. I've always taken pride in saving shitboxes from their previous owners' neglect.
