2017 exhaust help

I have a 2017 manual BRZ. I want to do something with the exhaust, and I also want a tune as well. The issue right now is I was settled on getting the Nameless dual exit axleback with the 2.5" piping and 5" mufflers, a UEL header and a tune. Now the issues are that the axleback on the 2017 is different than the prior years, and I guess so is the ECU.

So as of now, Nameless doesn't have any axleback in stock for the 2017's, it'll be a few weeks more apparently, no big deal. So since the ECU is somehow different the open flash maps for the OFT are different for the 2017's and so far support for the 2017's is severely lacking. I don't want to do a header without a tune since it probably won't run 100%, and I'll most likely get a check engine light. The OFT would fix both of those issues, but again, it doesn't seem smart to buy an OFT for the 2017's yet.

I've also heard from one person that the Nameless exhaust after they break in are pretty loud, and will be obnoxious with a header. I don't want anything crazy loud, just a bit louder than stock with a better, deeper tone. I don't want to buy an exhaust and have it still sound like stock though either. I want noticeably louder, but not obnoxious, especially since I do plan on going with a catless header eventually.

Not sure where to go or what to do from here besides just waiting.

In my 2017 I have the Perrin 2.5" catback and it sounded fantastic. I have since added Tomei UEL, Perrin Overpipe and a Berk HFC front pipe. The 2017 beta tunes are available from OFT, I'm using them now.

the Perrin 2.5" catback is louder than stock, but not obnoxious, has a nice deep tone, and sounds fantastic. With all the other exhaust stuff I've added, its loud, but not obnoxious. when cruising along, you hear a very nice low tone and on WOT you get a great rumble. resonance is around 3k rpm and is where it sounds the best.

There is a 2017 OFT tune for a header? I thought they just had a stage 1 tune?

There is definitely a stage 2 tune for headers. I had to email OFT/shiv a copy of my stock tune to get it.

How's yours running? Torque dip almost gone?

running great. Still a tiny bit rich (I can smell unburnt fuel after aggressive driving on track or autox), and torque dip is 90% gone.

any aftermarket exhaust will work on a 17. The tips on the rear are the only thing I think is different.

Nope the flange connecting the midpipe to the muffler is shaped differently. Any axle back exhaust will not fit on an MY17 car.

My bad I misread where he said he was looking at an axleback.

Correct. From watching youtube videos to hear examples of peoples exhaust setups I think I want to try a UEL header on an otherwise stock exhaust first, along with a tune of course. Sounds loud enough, and actually seems to sound nice.

I think you just sold me on a UEL header and OFT. 90% gone is good enough, and may get better with more developed OFT tunes later on.

That's my concern. The car has been out for almost a year now and there has hardly been any progress it seems.

I would email ahead of time and try to get the 2017 tune before making the OFT purchase. Some people have been waiting to get theirs from what I've been reading...

Join up with your local FT86 club and check out other members exhaust systems. Listening to youtube videos isn't enough. As mentioned Perrin resonated 2.5 is a good catback exhaust. Loud when it needs to be but not obnoxiously LOUD. Deep tone sound. Once you replace stock header your power train warranty will not be honored by Toyota.
