Here's mine since owned.... (Note: because of rounding, if you the division manually, the numbers vary slightly)

My 2017 and now 2022 BRZ would both range from the high teens to the high thirties in MPG all depending how and where I drive. My 2019 Subaru Ascent has a more compressed range of MPG either side of it’s average. I’m certain that my BRZ could match my all time best MPG of my 1970 Fiat 850 Sport Coupe in the high thirties on a 2,000 trip. I think my 1959 Austin Mini 850 was close doing the same trip, I wasn’t concerned so much about economy as knowing how far I could go to make the next fuel stop and not becoming road kill. My BRZ seems to be as good or better than I expected.

Just drove 90% hwy and 10% city (45mph zones). 75mph on average on hwy. 3500rpm shifts. I drove 10 miles at 85mph at one point I casually hit 100mph creeping up on it in 6th gear. No full throttle. Car has 3500 miles on it. Hand calculated 25.7mpg … I find that extremely optimistic given throttle input at times.

My commute is 80% highway, and I take some longer trips in my '22 BRZ 6MT as well. I average a calculated 28.2 MPG with a best of 33.5. Everything is tracked in Fuelly.

So I looked at the display, over 1100 miles the car is averaging 24.7 MPG.

I had a 2016 BRZ and averaged 28.78 over 33,000 miles. I'm currently at 28.24 after 3,600 miles with my '23 BRZ, but most of those are highway miles.
Getting into more detail, I was getting about 29 mpg with the 16 on my weekly commute (~260/week, about 100 miles city, 160 highway), the 23 gets 27 mpg on the same route. On road trips where it was virtually 100% highway miles the 16 was usually around 33-34 mpg, the 23 has been giving me 31-32. That's on identical rubber as I had PS4 tires on my 16. So in my experience the second gen seems to be about 2 mpg down on the first so far, which is a fair trade for the improved power IMO. (Calculated economy numbers, not the cars' displayed numbers. Display numbers usually were 1-2 mpg better than calculated on both cars) |

Not applicable to the BRZ obviously, but for the other Subarus I believe the AWD is part of the reason economy isn't better. Most other AWD cars operate as a FWD most of the time, while the Subarus are driving all 4 wheels all the time |

If you drive mostly highway then you should give us your avg cruising speed.
Using the mpg display in any vehicle isnt 100% accurate. You must hand calculate.

Valid point. For some reason I thought Subies of the last decade or so had moved away from full-time AWD like Audi did.

True indeed. Hence why it is pretty impressive subbies get the mpg they do with their modern AWD vehicles.

Funny, they spec'd "underrated" power for the new gen. To add to that, they spec'd a significant drop in gas mileage. They didn't do too good of a job making this car sound good on the spec sheets compared to reality! |

Former 13 BRZ 6MT
Current 22 GR 6MT My commutes are vastly different as is the altitude and average weather. Going slow in the 13 i could coax out 35-37mpg. Driving it like a prius and such. Going slow in the 22 i can get low to mid 30's Roughly 10% less in the new car. Both cars have the same gearing, wheras the guys with the 17-21 cars had shorter rear end in the manuals, and probably ended up with the same mpg as the new car. Auto guys i hear talk about fuel efficiency similar to the old MT cars which coincidentally are about the same performance. I drive 11 miles to work, 65 on the hwy for half of it, usually have a few moments of fun. get 25-27mpg usually.
