Hi there, new here from Ontario Canada.

I have been searching for a replacement vehicle and finally narrowed it down to a BRZ. As for car taste, I am all over the place. I have owned many (47so far) You've guessed it, I am probably older then most members here.

Hi there, I'm Brooke from Christchurch, New Zealand.

I plan on purchasing a 86/BRZ this year, I have been a fan of them ever since the first concept was released.

I have owned a number of cars over the years, a couple of STIs, a 180SX, a R33 Skyline, an EP3 Civic Type R, and more recently, a lightly modded NA6 Miata/MX5.

Can't wait to own a proper drivers car again !

Hi all,

New here from Boise, Idaho. Been lurking the forums for quite a while after buying my white 2015 Series.Blue so I finally decided it was time to join up.

I previously drove an '06 Legacy GT. I've only added appearance/winter mods thus far (Raceseng knob, RallyArmour flaps, Weathertech Mats, Matte black roof vinyl, 18" 10-12 legacy GT wheels 18x7.5 +55 with blizzaks). I do miss boost but wouldn't change a thing. Learned stick the day I bought it , and have been having a blast since. Spacers and springs are next.

Welcome fellow Series.Blue owner! You'll find that the forum is a great place to learn so much things about it.

Have fun!

Traded in a 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0t for a used 2014 BRZ limited M/T with 9k miles. I am loving the car so far! Still trying to figure out all of its quirks (chirping, 4th gear grind at higher speeds).

Hey everyone...greetings from Phoenix!

I picked up a 2014 DGM BRZ Limited last June. Been lurking around these pages for a while now, finally created an account.

Quick stats: 7k miles, on my 3rd transmission from Subaru. Getting service from Subaru can be... frustrating.

Just now completing a full gut of the interior for sound deadening (Don from SDS is awesome), full audio upgrade (Pioneer AVH-4000NEX, JL Audio XD700/5v2, JL Audio Stealthbox, JL Audio C5-650 in the front, JL Audio C2-525X in the rear, full rewire). Did the sound tube delete, removed the clutch return spring and lowered the clutch pedal a bit. Also put a OEM shark fin antenna from a 2015 on instead of the 2014 mini whip. Looks much better.

Next up is a Jackson supercharger, TRD short shift kit, Invidia Q300 exhaust with resonated catless front pipe and Invidia overpipe.

Hi everyone,

Matt from Pittsburgh here.

Just picked up my 2015 BRZ Limited in DGM two weeks ago. One last gasp of winter and now I'm daily driving it. Plan to upgrade the stereo in the not too distant future but otherwise absolutely loving the car.

Funny you should ask...

It's no mystery that the 86 6MT can be a bit... well... let's just say finicky. Since the day I took mine home, I was rather disappointed in the shift quality. I've driven lots...lots...of manuals. In the year 2014, a brand new car should not shift like a 43 Ford with unsynchronized gears. Notchy is one thing... excessive grinding and gnashing, inability to engage gears, and getting STUCK in gear is something else.

I had read the threads here many times over. I did my due diligence and went to the dealership, knowing full well to expect "could not reproduce problem." I wanted a paper trail.

Well, I got exactly what I expected. So I went back. And then I went back again. On my third visit, I got a little nasty.

Between visits 2 and 3, I had opened a case with Subaru of America and been handed off twice to different people who "could serve me better."

On the 3rd visit, I insisted that the service writer, the "lead master technician" who was the "god of all transmissions" (their words), the service manager, and the general manager of the dealership go on test rides with me.

2 lot cars plus my car = 3 cars. 2 seats. 4 people to test drive with. Do the math, that's 12 drives.

When the service manager tried to hit second gear in my car and it sounded like a terminator chewing on ball bearings, he ignored it and went to 3rd. I stared at him for a moment. Then I said "are you going to sit there and pretend that didn't just happen?"

When the general manager was on our 3rd drive (we did it in the order of 1 lot car, my car, 1 other lot car), he said "yeah, this car really shifts a whole lot differently than your car."

Finally we acknowledge there's a problem. Great. Now what?

Service manager says "We do not have permission to service these transmissions, with any problem we just replace them and send them back to Aisin for analysis."

Perfect. Fine. Awesome. It only took me 2 months of insistence to get here.

Thanks, Subaru.

Now, you might think we're good.. because I did. A week later, I got a call. Seems that a certain district manager, who we'll call BJ, decided that he was going to open my transmission and inspect it before authorizing a replacement. Even though, you know, the policy is pretty clear that they don't do that. Because, you see, BJ was a "expert master transmission mechanic for 25 years" and apparently he is smarter than all of the service technicians at the dealerships and he operates on his own set of rules. BJ was an arrogant, pompous jerk through my entire dealing with him.

Mind you, I had to give approval for this, because, and get this -- if I authorized the work and they looked at the transmission and they came to the conclusion that this was damage caused by abuse or any other non-warranty reason, that I would be responsible for the costs of repair and reassembly.

I said "Absolutely not. I'll come get my car, I'll let my lawyer handle this."

2 minutes later I got a call back stating that management at the dealership decided they would cover any potential repair costs. I said "put it in writing before you touch my car again."

A couple days later, BJ called me and told me that the problems with the transmission were excessive wear on gear synchronizers due to abusive driving, and that it would not be covered under warranty.

Remember, folks, the marching orders for Subaru (as I've been told by everyone EXCEPT BJ) are "replace, don't mess with it."

Abusive driving? The car had 800 miles on it, wasn't even broken in, and I'd done nothing but be overly gentle with it from day 1. Could BJ *prove* that the problem was due to something I did? "I don't have to prove it, I make the call."

After a few more heated discussions with SOA, the transmission was replaced. I was without my car for over a month.

How much money did it cost Subaru in the long run to have that jerk BJ decide he was going to try to push me around over an entire month, only to come to the same end conclusion of "we need to replace the transmission?" It would have cost Subaru (and the dealership) significantly less money to just follow standard operating procedure.

So, that was transmission #1.

About a month ago, I went to a different dealer because I had been smelling something burning (oil, plastic... something) and I couldn't quite identify where it was coming from. I hadn't gone to the trouble of getting under the car, and I was up for a free oil change anyway. So I asked them to take a look.

Service writer: "Your transmission is leaking and dripping on the exhaust."

*golf clap*

Me: "Ok, so what do we do about that?"

Service writer: "We'll swap out the transmission, policy is that we don't do any repairs on these, we just put a new one in and send it back. I see that it's already been replaced once by another dealer."

Me: "Yup. That didn't go well."

Service writer: "Don't worry about it, there won't be any problems here."

They gave me a loaner for a week, got a new box installed, and sent me on my way.

The sad part is, with that old leaky box went my MTEC springs and Redline MTL fluid, as well as Perrin mount support and rear bushing.

Bet you didn't expect a novel when you asked that question, did ya?

Box #3 shifts the best of the 3 I've had. I would never go so far as to say it shifts nicely, it's still a pain in the arse when it wants to be. I'm going to leave it alone for a little while with the stock fluid, springs, bushings, etc. As long as no problems develop, when I put the exhaust and supercharger on, I'm going to put in a TRD short shift kit and probably put another set of MTEC springs in with a Whiteline positive shift kit and either Redline MTL again or maybe I'll try the Pentosin this time.
