I wonder if anyone has tried to take a decibel (dB) measurement of the crickets before, and after they have returned, to verify whether or not this is the case. There are some pretty good apps out there that use your phone mic.

How many miles? I have a little over 1k since the new pump and it's still quiet.

I just got the car inspected 1/25/13 and the following parts will be replaced.

SU003-00328
SU003-00342
SU003-00347
SU003-00290
SU003-00316

Sub total: 1419.10$

I purchased the car around mid December, and noticed chirping almost immediately. Car has 905 miles as of now. I was told to come within a month for replacement.

it's good that the replacement parts cost a lot, that way it'll force Toyota/Subaru to come up with a permanent fix quick, otherwise it's gonna eat into their profit margin.

Have not go mine replaced I hear it when car has been running temp on idle but when I get on gear and go it goes away... not sure if I should go get it replaced if it will just come back..

anyone had it replaced and cricket came back and just run it like that without going back to dealer and getting it replaced knowing that cricket will come back?

Seems louder when the windows up close then down..must be that sound thing from the air intake making the sound more louder inside when the windows are up..

Not to sound too much like an a$$, but I am desperately trying to understand what you are posting. I can understand if English isn't your first language, but what the hell are you trying to say? Near as I can figure you have the chirps but haven't gotten the pump replaced yet. A few members have gone back again to have the pump replaced the second time, and have gotten the chirps again. I have no idea what you are talking about in the last section.

Dude. Are you really being that dramatic over what may be a truly minor problem? Also, there have been a few posts I have seen where the owners are reporting over 1k miles without any chirps. I'm still waiting until spring (since the chirps seem to come and go depending on ambient temperature as well), but this by no means tarnishes my view of toyobaru. This is the first run of the FR-S/BRZ, so guess what? We get to experience some first-run issues. No car has ever come to market without something weird happening in its first year.

But, I guess if you are going to spend all your time in your Internet Ivory Tower, casting judgement on two brands that have been relatively reliable stalwarts of quality for more than three decades now because of one small design fault, that's your right and choice.

UGHHHH.......first off they have admittedly stated that it is in-fact ABNORMAL for it to CHIRP. END OF STORY. I don't give a shit how little the fault is. Rather then replacing the pump with the same pump hoping for better results they should make a PERM fix. Because yes i will sit in my tower made of brilliance looking at people that let other people shit on them.

I spent 25k on this fucking car and i intend to get my value's worth. So own up and fix my shit.

Yes stuff like this happens boo whoo but guess what? they will only get my respect after resolving the problem.

Not! replacing multiple pumps multiple times and then giving up saying that should have fixed it.

Stop being so laid back, im not pissed at suburoyta...... however i will be with i dont get a perm fix.

Have each others back and maybe we will get a fix :happy0180:

btw i mean no disrespect i just love my car

tbh, I am not surprised at the length of time it has taken to, and continues to take, to address this issue. Looking at it from an engineering perspective:

First deliveries were made this summer. People started reporting chirping in July/August (5-6 months ago, rough estimate), TSB was released in the fall (Sept. 26, 2012). Its been 4 months since the TSB was released, why no perm fix?

I would wager its not because of a lackadaisical effort on Subaru or Toyota, but because they are trying to find a proper fix to this. Obviously slapping a new HPFP is not going to fix this, and owners are continuing to use their cars normally with no noticeable issues (yet). So excuse the engineers for taking their time and making sure this fix is indeed, as you demand, perfect. I direct your attention to the engineer's triangle, and ask what two you would like to have with regards to this fix:

That makes perfect sense.... but all we need is a little reassurance like hey guys we are working on it don't worry we love you.

and our thoughts of despair will be lifted away

This is my point - The companies here must do something to make the situation tenable for us. Either they should acknowledge the issue and let us know that a fix is on the way while assuring us that there is no problem other than the annoying auditory issue, or they should repeatedly replace the part until the fix is found and they are able to replace it a final time. The second method is going to get costly quick if everyone who has the issue has the part diagnosed and fixed even once - to not find a solution means a loss in revenue which is simply not a good business model.

The idea that there are people out there who are willing to suffer this sound because they think it "normal" does not change the fact that I do not believe it to be so, and I spent a portion of my income for something that is not operating at its expected level. Perception is reality, they say in the business world, and that is my perception - the car is an embarrassment because of the sound. It is a blemish on a rose that should be rectified without a need for bickering or disagreement between the parties involved.
