Having worked near the airport for about 10 years some time back I'm thinking it's either Pit Boss or BBQ Kitchen. There's a few others but those are usually the go-to places. Most likely BBQ Kitchen as Pit Boss is on the backside of a liquor store right off the airport runways, not near a hotel.

Pulled the receipt from my expenses. You are correct it was BBQ Kitchen. Cost me $11 for a whole meal including drink and dessert (peach cobbler of course).

We got to the airport around two in the afternoon and had time to kill so we drove way further than just around the airport. We had spotted the place at the start of our journey but I wanted to see what else we could find. There were some areas we drove through that I am pretty sure we should not have. Most of it looked pretty nice though.
Went back to the BBQ Kitchen mostly because I figured being so close to the airport that they would be used to strangers. Boy was that a wrong assumption! It was all locals and although they were very friendly I am pretty sure that most didn't have a clue where Canada was. The fact that there was a Canadian and a Mexican there at the same time seemed like front page news.

Even the hotels around the airport are usually filled with "locals" or at least airport related personnel. Delta alone has about 30,000 employees in the area. UPS also has a huge number.

I used to frequent the other place I mentioned (Pit Boss) pretty regularly (it was called The Flying Pig then) because it was within walking distance of my office. They had the best smoked wings I've ever had.

You missed the chance to eat at the original Chick-fil-a which is near the airport in Hapeville, if you are fan. (I'm not a fan myself but I seem to be in a minority with that).

Do you like shad roe?

I found it to be quite tasty, once I got past what I was eating -
