Dammit so I ordered the STI short shifter but it's not here yet.
The BRZ technical manual says in order to set the reverse lockout plate, put the shifter into 2nd gear, slip a 1.0mm shim in-between the plate and the shifter and then set the 4 screws. If shifting from 1st to 2nd cannot be done properly, then use a 0.8mm shim instead. Okay so I bought myself a metric feeler gauge and grouped 0.8mm and 0.2mm shims together. Wolf one down. Then it says I need the following two types of grease: Permalub ECN-9 Nigtight LYW No. 2 Like where the hell am I gonna find these grease? The Toyota parts counter just gave me a funny look and said "no". Would SuperLube grease do the job? It's rated for -45F to 450F in temp and it's not petroleum based. Should be okay right? Then there's the dust boot on the shift fork part I need to figure out. I've already bought a spare washer and cotter pin from Toyota. The STI shifter comes with a new dust boot and said to replace it. This part just baffles me it looks tough. Last edited by krayzie; 07-30-2014 at 04:55 PM. |

Careful with the dust boost as I ripped my oem one. It's a simple slide and stretch over.
(Maybe not so simple as I'm telling you to be careful) |

Yep, they just want to make sure of it's contents and whatnot for customs - called me asking what I had ordered and I got a bill a couple weeks later for taxes and duties.

I pulled my boot back towards the rear of the car on the horizontal bar. Once I got it close to position I stretched it over the pin. Pull the pin and remove washer. Then struggle a little to get the two pieces apart. If they get stuck on you, use channel locks to kind of force press it out.

I see on the diagram there are also two plastic collars on the fork that goes into the shift lever, do those slide out or are they stuck to the shift lever during the struggle? |

I bought the Bayson R full STI replica kit a few months back (before the Series.blue was announced) to see if I really liked it. I do, and the front lip and rear aprons fit perfectly, but I still haven't got the skirts to sit just right.
I placed an order for the real skirts today and am super excited to get them. subarugenuineparts.com has a link to the installation instructions, but when I go there, it asks for me to purchase a subscription. Does anybody have the OEM install instructions (hopefully in English)?
