I told the service manager guy a that i wouldn't want to replace the fuel pump today if there is no permanent fix but he told me to leave the car there and he will do his best to get it fixed. So hopefully this is it and i wont have to go back to Toyota services for silly stuff.

How long did it take you to get the fuel pump? I brought mine into the dealer yesterday and they said it could take 2 months for the part to come in..

Hello there,

It tooks me two evenings to read all the posts. Correct me if I'am wrong, but the issue seems to only happen in USA. I did not read complains form people from Japan or Europe. In Europe, where I live, we have gas 95 and 98 octane or even 100 in Germany (Shell V-Power) all without ethanol. Do those better gas can avoid the issue ?

PS : Sorry for my very poor english.

San Francisco Toyota always has the fuel pump in stock. Every single time I brought my car in, it only took 3-4 hours to get replaced.

It's probably due to the larger number of the cars being sold in the US than in Europe with the resulting larger number of complaints. Not sure if its the quality of gas, higher temperatures, or manufacturing defects.

PS Your English is fine.

It was the 3rd times for me. I called SF scion and told them the noise came back and that i wouldn't want to replace another the fuel pump if there is no permanent fix. The service manager told me to bring the car in anyway and they would do anything to get it fix permanently this time. lol. When i picked up my car, they told me the part they put in is diff with the one they replaced on my car the last couple times...

Yup, ethanol in the fuel does strange things. North America has a bunch of garbage in the fuel that other countries don't.

As I stated before, Scion HQ told me that the materials the pump was made from were not compliant to the specifications necessary. The materials expand when exposed to heat (when the engine has warmed up to NOT). This expansion causes the chirping. Again, this is what I was told. The reason for the back order was because the supplier had to begin using new materials for the pumps. So, I assume all of the pumps made prior to this were scrapped causing a huge demand for replacements and no available inventory.
Update: Now over 800 miles after replacement. The crickets have not returned.
