But that all comes down to local and goverment taxes, not necessarily Toyota. It's the same here in Australia. The taxes push the price up.

I think in Thailand it's more to do with keeping traffic congestion and pollution down. I've been there on the road in Bangkok during peak hour and it was a mad house (actually it was like this most of the time). Also having a car in Thailand is more of a luxury item (showing status) more than anything else right?

EDIT: MOST cars are WAY more expensive in most asian countries unless they are produced there. Even then they are not cheap for the "average" person and imported cars are out of reach for most people.

By that do you mean on the "Build your Scion" link which was being discussed above? I don't see it. I can't select the FR-S. The link is on the FR-S page but you have to select a model to start and the FR-S ain't one of 'em.

$24.2k FRS MT
$24.9k BRZ Premium MT
$27.2k BRZ Limited MT
I realize that BRZ pricing is probably optimistic given its exclusivity, older target market, and feature-sets:
  • BRZ Premium: HIDs, LEDs, touchscreen stereo w/ navigation
  • BRZ Limited: fog lights, heated seats & mirrors, dual & auto HVAC, keyless, leather/alcantara, spoiler
But anything above $25.5k and $27.9k for the BRZ would surprise me (and even at those prices I'm likely to go with the FRS).
If it's this close in price, I would get the BRZ limited....

Yes, if 27.2k, I'd stick with the Limited too. I've been eyeing/eying that FRS and Premium BRZ lately, and even the WRX!... the wait is killing me!

I would definately get this car but i am rethinking everything because I might go away for university and It will be troublesome paying for a car and tuition at same time.

I will give it time and see what hits me up in the upcoming future(maybe 3 months or so), If i stay in the city, ill get it but if i go upstate.. I wont(till graduation xD)

My problem is that I think the BRZ just doesn't look as great, flat out. And I couldn't compromise on looks. Yeah, yeah about the headlights (I agree), but that is one plain, boring, ugly front end (with that strip, god). That I can't live with. It just looks so little like the Toyota 86, and it looks like a mid life crisis version for middle aged men. Agressive car and platform, but toned down to look sedate.

Anyone remember this quit from Jack Hollis regarding the pricing:

Quote:
A rear-wheel-drive car could absolutely work. If you look at Scion’s entry into racing and drifting itself, the fun [associated with that], there’s no question that a rear-drive car would be great for Scion. It would probably have to be a car that was a little over $20,000…The marketplace still demands fun, high-performance vehicles. Scion has positioned itself perfectly in that world with tuners and accessorization, and it would be great to top that off with a rear-wheel-drive application. Whether we can pull it off or not remains to be seen, but it won’t be for lack of trying.

I totally agree. The 86/FR-S looks supercar aggressive. Especially with the LED/HID headlamps, you know people will see it and go, "What was that? It looked fast/expensive!" (Even though it's not) But more importantly, I like the way it looks. The BRZ just looks like a somewhat sportier coupe, almost like a new muscle car. When people see it they'll go, "Hmm, that's interesting, a new Subaru."
