It is technically illegal to run without a front license plate. But you won't get pulled over automatically for not having it. Some cops will be pretty strict about it and will pull you over and ticket you for it. But not all.

I just don't want the hassle, so I run with a front license plate.

I havent ran a front plate for almost 5 years. No ticket / hassling. Depends on the cop

Don't forget about parking tickets. If you park at a meter and you get a ticket they will tack that on.

Only reason i run it because i used to visit LA a lot, where they're very strict about it+ i run straight pipes and other crazy things on my car, so i really don't want to get stopped for no plates and then the cop realizes the crap on my car !

My last car wasn't modified to a point where I could get in any serious trouble so I went without a front plate and never got pulled over or got a ticket. On the other hand my girlfriend has no front plate and gets a no front plate ticket every other month when she is parked at a meter. I can't take that risk of getting pulled over any longer so I've mounted mine off to the side (no drilling) with the Grimmspeed setup. There are a few other options on the market as well so you don't have to hurt your bumper.

Cops will pull you over for no front plate as an excuse to see if they can get you with a DUI. This only usually happens if you're driving around 1:30am - 2:30am. This has happened to me a few times, but never gave me a ticket in this situation.

In LA, a meter maid will give you one when you're parked on the street. This happens all the time.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the front plate is a secondary offense (IE not one you can legally get pulled over for). Though I guess they can consider that probably cause or something and you are screwed. I'll ask my CHP buddy.

Really dislike the quality on my grimspeed, I'd really recommend raceseng one instead

I got pulled over by CHP for no front plate.... fix it ticket.

I talked to my buddy at CHP...you can get pulled over without a front plate (forget the code he told me). Said they only do that if they are suspicious of you or bored.
