Now is the time to buy a ND1 Miata if you were ever interested. Owners on the Miata forum are posting discounts of $4k-7k off MSRP as incentive to get rid of the 2018 ND’s.

If the earlier ND1s drop really fast in price, I would be kind of tempted...
The factory can't really tune the way the aftermarket does, they probably gave it more valve lift and the intake modifications probably help too. It can't be too expensive to do those things to an ND1... |

The local Mazda dealer (in a very small town) has had about 8 17s all lined up out front gathering dust for several months now. Something tells me you will be able to pick them up for a song soon.

Sure, but the resale value of the revised ones should always be higher, and you don't get the telescoping steering wheel or the higher RPM redline. It's tempting to save several thousand, but I think in the long run I would regret not getting the ND2.

I respect that. I just don't see the recoup of the 4k-8k saved in the first place. It's justifiable if only to quell your fear of not having the nd2.

I agree. You buy a Mitia for the open top. Yes the extra bit makes a difference but really how much? Is it worth 4-7K? Not in my eyes.
