The other was my 70 Coronet R/T that pulled high 12s on the strip on a regular basis (that was more impressive in the 70s than it sounds now). I am a big fan of MTs but this whole AT sucks thing for the Twins just doesn't make sense. These are not your daddy's Buick ATs.
This is a technical foul. Cars with a shit load of power can take advantage of being auto. My GT was auto and fast off the line, but it couldn't handle for shit even with suspension mods. This little car would bore the shit out a me in auto form, fact I wouldn't have even bought it. And for people not modding, the best mod is a six speed.

A small nimble relatively low horsepower sports car would seem to be more fun with a manual. Manuals are dying. If you've never driven or owned a manual car .... you owe it to yourself to experience it 1st hand.

Please explain how this car is boring with an AT. Because you can't choose what gear you want to be in? Because the AT doesn't rev match? Because when you go to a track, they won't let you on if you have an AT? Because you won't be competitive in autox?

Please explain this mystery to me. So far, in all your MT>AT posts, you give no substantive reason. I'm assuming it's because you need to the use your MT as an extension of... something.

It's because you are missing an entire pedal.

Forgot to mention, it's a manual and it's a BRZ. Kinda strained away from my original thoughts a year ago when I originally posted this lol
Been practicing and I'm feeling optimistic! Not sure what I love more - driving it or looking at it!

I'll get right to it. I am by no means a 'car guy' when it comes to the knowledge of what makes cars tick. For the past year though, I've considered getting an FRS. The hype is so great that I couldn't help but be lured into it.
1. I don't know how to drive stick
2. This would be my only DD
3. My current and only car I've had is an automatic 07 chevy cobalt
4. My driving would be mainly highway (Phoenix, AZ)
5. Married but not planning on a family soon

Also, I am very very much interested in LEARNING and I believe having a new, nice car like this will help my motivation to do so.

Question is, should I go for the AT FRS or am I better off looking for 'just another sedan'?

If you are not a car guy, don't get a twin. There's a lot of subtleties with this car that you won't appreciate and you'll end up asking why you got this rattling, tiny little car that gets blown away at stop lights by minivans. But if you want to learn about a sports car and want to get your hands dirty, this a good car to begin with.

If you want to learn to drive a stick, this car is as good as any. But if you never have had one before, you don't know if you'll love it or hate it. Driving a stick IS NOT about changing gears, it' about a connection to the car and having more control over what the car does. It's more about that funny third pedal than about the imposing stick. If you just want the car to go and for the gear changes to happen without thinking about it, get an auto.

There's a lot of subtleties about this car that you really have to be a car guy to appreciate. There's no blast of power that constantly reminds you of what the car does and makes passengers smile. The LSD, the ultra low COG, the way it attacks corners even without trying, how easy it is to work on and mod, the lines, the light weight, and a lot of other things that don't smack you upside the head are what this car is about.

Something like a SS smacks you upside the head with power, and your passengers feel the acceleration immediately; a FRS flows through corners and slides sideways and makes your passenger fear for their life, but you know it's all good. Non car guys can fully appreciate MO POWAH, but only someone who knows what to look for can appreciate an 86 IMHO.

Oooh ooh, I know, pick me. It's the penis! It could be that or maybe just some people get down on grabbing rods and slapping them around a little. Seriously though, are we ever going to be done with the auto/manual jerkfest?
Is it only going to stop when all cars are electric with no transmissions but rather just electric motors with an on off switch? The auto twins have paddles that control the transmission, this isn't that hard to understand is it?
