I like it. It looks like a good and affordable daily driver. Like a Corolla with a hatch which is pretty much what this is. I don't understand all the hate it's getting.
On a side note, I wonder if we'll see a "Traded my FRS in for an iM" thread. Lol. |

like i said, more good looking 3 doors and 5 doors
You see, the US market is full of them, there is no shortage. the issue is that the majority of them are catastrophically ugly. it's like, "I have to drive around in a travesty because i couldn't afford a better looking car."

They should of kept the "FR-S" style fascia. Scion kind of had a new brand image going with the fascia (see FR-S, tC, iA)... this iM concept had it, the Toyota Auris it is based off of kind of has it, the production iM removed it. I don't get it.

well if we are going the path of the JDM/car culture way, then those ugly ass "one-box Kei cars" that all have the design aspirations as much as a coffin (its a term used in Japan since if you crash in one, you will most likely die, shaped like a coffin, at least you will be packaged already for a funeral), then stance it out/aero/LED everywhere to look cool, will be the most popular, economical, plenty of room, gas saving atrocities.
The car culture is dead in Japan imo, and the US has more passion with various builds. Its over-ran by creepy Otaku's and anime geeks, hardly the car culture we all think they have (touge drift super awesome street racing!). Oh and the VIP big Scooters they have.. Hope that doesn't take off here.

Some one hasn't been to Osaka...or Kyoto...or Saitama... Almost everything I hear out of Osaka is about the car culture, The car culture is alive it's just not as big as one might think. Quote:
"drop an LS in there." "Strip everything out" "we need 400bhp minimum." while there's nothing wrong with that, it's just mot my forte. Quote:

Getting back to the Scion iM, this car will sell to 30's-40's age group. Mostly, it's when younger couples get married and share a dual income is when either wife/husband gets a brand new affordable car. It's younger married couples up to 40 that are buying cars like Mazda3, Focus, and Matrix to haul stuff and kids. The Scion iM will not sell to the young and single crowd. But the FRS will... If they can afford it or have help buying it.

I am Japanese, and I am not proud of the JDM culture, especially the Ita-Sha (anime girl vinyl wraps), mini-van modding and giant scooter modding, usually favored by high-school drop-outs living off parents money. They are referred to as "neats" or "Dokyun". Essentially useless in Japanese society standards

Scion iM
I rather like it for what it is. I think giving it the best Corolla powertrains (ZR VVTiL, CVT, 6MT), IRS, and boat loads of tech for $20k will sell a good number of cars. It is the best Corolla you can buy. I'll certainly not feel bad recommending it to friends that want that sort of car.
A turbo AR would put it on my shopping list, though. Sent from Tandy 400 |
