I have a soon to be 7 year old and I take the FR-S anytime I can. My wife has a Camry, that I only rarely drive because I love the FR-S. I even take it when we travel 7-8 hrs to visit family. My daughter fits in the back but since she is not tall enough to comfortably keep her feet on the ground she keeps her legs crossed, it bother her.

Been married less than a year. Let me tell you how I obtained my FRS.

Followed the wife to the local Toyota dealership to drop her 2010 Corolla off for an oil change. Noticed an FRS on the lot and we took it for a test drive. Told the salesman, be back to pick up her car and went to our favorite breakfast place. While eating she told me something I knew I would rarely hear. "If you are going to get a sports car, now is the time. Otherwise, you should wait for our future kids to be out of college." We went back to pick up her car and I traded in my civic for the FRS.

When kids are brought into the picture, in the coming years, it will result in us requiring a new vehicle to haul the family around. Did I mention she wants an SUV? We talked it over and agreed we should get her the SUV of her dreams, I will drive her Corolla as a DD and garage the FRS.

Remember, it is a lot bigger hassle to sell a car than buy a car.

My fiance and I are planning on having kids. She agreed to me buying the FR-S because later on we'll just buy a used Honda Odyssey. Having a third vehicle (Her daily is a 2012 Ford Fiesta) is never a bad idea. You never know when you will have car problems, so the extra whip isn't going to hurt.

Whoa whoa whoa, you planning on having three kids in one shot?

I bet her Fiesta would handle a Keyfit 30 if you mounted it in the middle of the back seat. Or if that's not big enough get an SUV instead. Vans are depressing.

I'm 28 with a live-in girlfriend. No kids for me. At this point I've already taken the measures to make sure it's not medically possible.
But if I were going to have kids I wouldn't have gotten the FR-S. I would've gotten a WRX hatchback, or if I could manage the extra money an STI hatchback. Might not be fun in the same way but they're still a blast, and the STI gets much closer to the FR-S in terms of enjoyable to drive on a daily basis (I love how the 6-speed in the STI feels so much better than the 5-speed in the WRX)

Edit: With the added bonus that a WRX or STI is a blast and fast as hell in ANY weather.

The Honda Odyssey is ridiculously nice. I absolutely loathe SUVs, they are the most useless vehicles on the road. The same number of seats as a sedan, with the giant, terribleness of a truck. Also the big douche factor of driving a huge SUV is too much for me. If you are going to have kids, I don't see why a mini-van is a bad idea. I'll be driving my FR-S as a daily, and whenever we need to take the family somewhere, we can all pile into the van.

I personally think they are only acceptable if you stance them out on bags with tasteful wheels and perhaps an aggressive aero kit. Otherwise the aura of uncool will ultimately turn you into a square, for which there is no cure.

You will begin to like your minivan, and begin using phrases like "grounded to the ground".
Anyone who buys a minivan and tries to make it "cool" is missing the point. You buy a minivan for REAL utility - unlike Stupid User Vehicles a van is infinitely more useful when you have carseats (which have ballooned in size in the past 10 years), want to haul stuff around (I've fit over 30 bags of mulch and soil in ours with the second row out, plus 10 foot 4x4 beams with the tail closed), and care about keeping your kids safe. Only reason to buy a SUV is if you tow or drive offroad (I can't believe anyone with an FR-S/BRZ believes in the myth of 4x4 or AWD helping on pavement in normal driving conditions).

Do I wish our Odyssey transmitted an iota of steering feel? Yes. But my kids are much more important to me than steering feel - and a lot more fun to be with than the return from driving a car seat carrier.

I'm proud to drive my Ody around when I'm hauling stuff. And proud to drive my FR-S when I'm just hauling my rear-end (or also one passenger - which has been a car seat and child fairly occasionally).

Years ago I was married, had an RX8, and two dogs. Then we had a daughter. Toddler seat fit in the rear seats very well, but when we all had do go out, someone had to be left behind. Wife was never happy about being left behind so she divorced me and took the dogs and daughter with her.

Now I have an 86 all to myself. Very similar to the RX8 except no dogs licking the windows, barfing in the footwells, and shedding hair all over the place, and the sat nav is actually gets me to my destination instead of whinging about taking the long way or the wrong way or my apparent failings as a husband.

Much more pleasant car to drive this Toyota 86.

Is it normal for guys to plan on getting married?

It seems like we are brainwashed into go to school -> get a job -> get married -> have a kid(s)

I always felt like this is not the only path in life but it so sad I see all my male friends planning for it like its inevitable. I'm 25 and they are like oo I have to settle down find a wife etc before they are 30.

It is so frustrating for me to see other guys feel they have to do this. I
m not saying it is a bad choice but come on. Then dont get me started on how I see girls who know they (guys in general) feel this way and take advantage of it/them...

It's kind of refreshing to hear someone else with this opinion. I'm 28 but I've known for years that I don't ever want to have kids and it's annoying that so many people act like it's sacrilege to plan on never having kids. As for marriage, I'm indifferent at this point. I have a serious girlfriend but I'm in no rush to get married. I know what you mean though. All my friends are settling down and getting married. I'm going to 5 weddings this year.

Oh man, this brings back painful memories. Traded an 03 Evo for a BRZ after thinking about it for months. 2 months after getting the BRZ the wife is pregnant lol. Needless to say I was missing the Evo big time.
