Are techs coming from these endorsed programs as well-rounded as one would want? I once had an older tech lament that the new breed was great a on-board diagnostic but lousy at troubleshooting. I somewhat dismissed it as old school versus new school commentary, but maybe there's something to it? Might be a good topic for another post. I'm sure we have lots of technicians on the board...

All the good master techs are at private speedshops. Most techs just like to throw parts at the problem anyway...only met a few worth their salt.

Saw a mid 40s young 50s guy in a very nice suit up filling up his mercedez cl550 at an arco once... It's like having the money for good brandy and than chugging it down.

I didn't know it required premium till I bought the thing. (Never bought a nice car before.) I better not let the wifey fill it up or I'll never hear the end of it. Despite paying it off, they still like to complain about everything.
I saw the octane 98 crap in the manual in the 2 ratings, and assumed the 98 was what I needed. I was just like, DAMN. I have to go to the Colorado springs speedway to fill this? Haha. I was late for work because of my minor freak out.

Just an odd thought/question. If you fill up with gas that states that it "contains 10% ethanol", as opposed to straight up gasoline, you lose a little energy, but gain a little knock resistance. Which do you figure is the greater effect, or is so little that it isn't worth thinking about?

Googling it
Wikipedia:
Knocking (also called knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine"]Internal combustion engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] occurs when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark_plug"]Spark plug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame], but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front. Just that simple. Argument over. |

It uses weird valve timing techniques to accomplish this. The Atkinson cycle is tuned for efficiency, not power. |

No, I stated the nomenclature which highlights the massive confusion in this thread. In that context they are tripping over nomenclature causing confusion. I myself, like many others am used to calling detonation knock which of course has more than one meaning in reference to piston engines.

Hi everyone,
I was inputting my most recent gas receipt on my fuelly account and just noticed that my receipt says “supreme cr" instead of premium. Is there anything that I can do to abate this or should I simply listen for any unusual knocks . For context my car is a 2014 FRS with 3k miles on it. I have already done ~100 miles on this tank and haven't noticed any unusual behavior. This is infuriating because the gas attendant asked me 3 times what grade of gas I wanted; twice from driver side window and then again from the passenger side. Soo pissed right now. Hopefully there is no adverse effect to this. Should I contact the dealership? I'd rather not make that phone call and end up being revoking the warranty or something and being billed for something. Any tips welcome. Sorry if I'm overreacting. Update: just got gas again after almost finishing half a tank (trip meter says 115 miles at half tank). I asked the Delta gas station attendant what “supreme" means and he assured me that it's just another term for premium or 91 octane. Although that is a relief but why the drop in fuel economy?. Perhaps it's b/c I didn't go home this weekend (80 miles highway) and so far have done 100% city driving(horrible Newark traffic). I figured I'll update and inform that “supreme " is just another term for premium (at least at Exon gas stations). ........ BTW; I don't understand the “full power " comment. Does that mean don't drive the new engine through the rev range? ( I just crossed 3k miles). Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk Last edited by dentalprodigy; 09-23-2014 at 12:04 PM. |

Don't worry, be happy 8)
Run out a quarter and fill with Premium a couple times. She'll be right mate. The ECU will prevent anything nasty from happening.
