Speaking of watches, anyone have any experience changing their own batteries? I'm suspecting its no big deal but haven't done it before.

I have a Citizen Watchman that needs one, and I'm thinking about doing it myself.

I've taken an automatic movement out and put it back successfully, and most of the work is unscrewing the back. Battery should be easy if you have the 3 point wrench (assuming it's a screw down case).

If the watch is old you might have to worry about the gasket/o-ring to keep water resistance.

I did it now... impulse purchased a Lum-Tec M48 demo model directly from them (because a lot less than new anywhere).

Now I have to sell off stuff to cover it...but it's a Panerai case style watch I've been wanting... and is 1 of only 100 made. Replacement for my Invicta Reserve Sea Vulture for just a little bit more money. The Invicta Reserve Sea Vulture still keeps good time [put it away in a box ~1 year ago and looked at it an its currently just over 1 minute off NIST official time] it's just upper spring bar won't stay on ever since the stock one broke while I was swimming) . Should be quite an upgrade in quality/craftsmanship; even though the materials are of really good on this particular Invicta (titanium case, carbon fiber dial, and sapphire crystal) it's typical Invicta quality...which is WAY below that of the Orients I have.

Quite the commendable taste of watches that some of you wield.

Wondering what you guys think of this?

Catorex C’Tradition
The C'Tradition looks to the past, combining each era's finest features into a classically elegant watch. The case aims for sobriety and borrows the pure line of the pocket watches which Catorex made in the second half of the 19th century. Large Arabic numerals stand out on the dial, harking back to the 1930s, while the mechanical movement introduces complications that were all the rage in the Belle Époque. Mechanical automatic movement. Steel case. Hours, minutes, seconds, date. Silver-toned dial. Black leather strap with folding clasp.

But mostly this.

Armin Strom Gravity Water: capturing the laws of gravity
The Armin Strom Gravity is the first watch from the Biel-based Manufacture to feature an automatic winding mechanism with micro rotor.

Armin Strom wanted to express the essence of a fundamental law of physics – that of gravity. Thus, the laws of gravity are used in an automatic watch to transform movements into a mode of indicating the time. However, the Armin Strom Gravity does not simply provide a glimpse of how this transformation works, rather, the dial is designed to proudly display the micro rotor, which captures the power of the movements and transforms them into energy. The visibility of this mechanism is made possible thanks to an innovative concept of transmission for the rotor, which remains smaller in size than the diameter of the going barrel.
Limited to 100 pieces

Might lurk in here a bit now. I have a really cheap watch that I got to add as an accessory when I dress up for work (although since they got rid of business professional I stopped wearing ties and the watch) and I'd like another, better one. I've decided recently that I really like the skeleton watches. Other than that, complete noob/cheapskate here. These are some nice looking watches in here though.

One of my very best friends is one of the "Blade Brothers". I got that knife before they were even available to dealers.

It's at their shop right now getting pimped out. Modified inlays, PVD and DCL coatings.

@M-17

Depends on the price. It looks like it uses an ETA 2895 which are great, but you shouldn't pay too much.

Just got myself a new one Monday. Not a mechanical beauty, but it *is* a watch. Found an old watch strap that wasn't as... rubber... as the default one.

userjack6880, so how do you like the pebble so far?

I ordered a watch for my brother during the cyber "week" sale and it came in today. For $49 it was a great deal (normally $80). Orient FUNE4002B0. Even for being a "$50" watch it PERFECTLY hits every mark with the second hand. I think he'll like it, will be a more dressy watch to complement his daily Casio G-shock Multiband Atomic. Dusted off my SLR, charged the battery, put on the 50mm macro and took some pictures:

Hard to find information for it, but I took measurements and it is a 20mm lug with, ~40mm case width [43.8 with crown], and ~8mm case depth.

Early xmas gift from my SO

C Ward C60 Trident COSC

Yup, it's a Sub 'homage' (that's watchspeak for 'knockoff'). Great quality though and a COSC certified movement and sapphire crystal. I really liked the shape of the hands, and I wanted something waterproof and with a sapphire crystal because my last watch got scratched up on the crystal, and was leaking water which led to its ultimate demise (it'd fog up on every humid day), so I didn't want to take any chances on scratching it or having it leak
