When products, services or commodities are in limited supply and high demand—as the case is with the limited production BRZ or FRS, the dynamics of a free market result in the likelihood of a Market Value Adjustment…something that happens with stocks on Wall Street everyday, and the price of oil in Iran. When that demand declines and supply increases, producers, manufacturers and service providers offer incentives and discounts.

As an example, one of the orders we currently have on a 2013 BRZ was sold to a person who ordered a Nissan GT-R when they were first released. He related that the Adjusted Market Value of that car was $20,000 over MSRP. Virtually every model year a few select cars become instant hits with demand far outstripping supply. Such was the case with the GT-R, Bentley Continental GT, Chevrolet SSR, Mazda Miata, and of course who can forget owners paying twice MSRP for the first year PT Cruiser?!

As you know this is not an occurrence limited to automobiles. When the Playstation 2, 3, Xbox 360, iPhone, iPad, etc were released, people would buy them, then immediately flip them for thousands of dollars worth of profit. Without a doubt, you will find BRZ’s and FRS’s being offered on eBay at prices eclipsing those at dealerships for the sheer fact of high demand and low supply. Prices for every product or service are, in reality, 100% set by the consumer. What people want they will pay for.
You do realize that there wasn't a co-developed Subaru GT-R or Panasonic Playstation3 or any other IDENTICAL vehicle/thing for sale at normal prices right?

Plus weren't you people (dealers) crying and whining about being 'forced' to sell an 'un-marketable' Subaru with no AWD?

****s...

So, last week I visited my local Subaru dealer in Feasterville, PA. Colonial Subaru. They said that they were only getting a few units and would be charging more than list... BUT if they could order more than their initial allocation they would sell me at list. They called back the next day and said that they could indeed do this.

So, went today to do the paperwork and put down the deposit and found out they changed their mind. They will mark-up (a yet unknown amount) all the ones coming in.

So...

I declined to do business with them.

Oh, and I forgot... They also wanted a $2,000 deposit. So, not only would they be charging a premium over list...they would have the use of my $2,000 for several months.

I still cant believe that they're marketing this car as "limited production/availability"... Are they really only going to produce only a few, and not churn out corolla/TC like volumes? Unbelievable for a less than 30k car. I still think they're doing this to hype it up... There's no way... They're so full of themselves lol

Well that's why I'm probably going to wait until they have decent stock. I used to work at a Mitsubishi dealer and I was going to get my dad an Evo X MR when it first came out at a little under MSRP, which still would have given them good money. The main manager was OK with it but the other manager, who was a ****, suddenly said he wouldn't mark it down and would charge a thousand over MSRP. I was so pissed but fortunately the main manager told him to just sell it at MSRP. Some managers really don't give a shit if they lose a sale. They think they can always fool someone into paying more.

mr. subaru of LV! here is a good solution for you.. for the sake of your long term business. It seems like you are trying to explain your competitiveness. What I see now, you should get a contract (in written of course) that you will be willing to sell a brz 2k under MSRP and no extra shitty hidden fees. I bet everyone here would love to buy brz from you. That might clear up your name here.
No more BS explanation, we only care about numbers =/

I'm glad there isn't any NY dealers on the list and glad there isn't a huge list.

Hey, watch your mouth! In case you haven't been paying attention, there are some salesmen reading this thread. Just because some dealers are assholes doesn't mean we all are. Believe me I know they're out there; I'd like to punch 'em in the mouth personally, but not everyone is like that. I work very hard to do my job with transparency and integrity, and so do all of my co-workers.
