Unless your 50 or older, or deal specifically in vintage auto's you don't know what the OP is talking about,....not really,....by the way you forgot to mention servicing the oil bath air filters, mainly on old pickups.

Whats stupid about the push-button start is that you have to put the key in the ignition first, then reach down and push the button?! Duha!

Ive seen the proximity key so you just get in, push to start then go. If you walk away with the keys the car turns off. :-/

Im having an issue with the directionals!!
Its not 'at my finger tips" and it wont tirn off unless I Fin make a sharp turn! Seriously? Im gonna have to get that device that shuts it off automatically.
Im changing lanes, maneuvering and shifting, and I just cant manage the stupid directionals.

In making a lane change or just a slight turn it is designed that you can push the stalk in the direction you want it to go but instead of pushing it all the way to the click, stop pushing before the click and just hold it there and it will flash away as long as you hold it. When you release it, it automatically shuts off. I don't consider it a bother as I usually only hold it for 3 or 4 flashes before I release it. I've found that to be pretty much standard on most cars.

The 86 on the other hand has 2 packages, the GT, and the GTS.

For AT prices, the GT comes in at about 33k Drive away, and the GTS comes in at 42 Drive away.

GTS86 (What I purchased) comes with push button, LSD, DRLs, Heated seats, climate control, higher grade wheels (better rated rubber + 17 Inch rims) and a 4 vented disc break package, Xenon head light package, Premium Trims, Alcantara perferated leather seats and touch screen SatNav.

The LSD and break package alone easily make up the price difference, and it looks to me like the FRS is basically the same as the baseline GT model over here (Keeping in mind all manual models here, GT and GTS come with LSD, where as the GT AT does not, for some reason.)

I really saw no sense in going for the base line GT unless you were using it for a track car or couldn't afford the extra, the LSD and break package alone make the extra cash worth it. Say it was just luxury items, and not preformance changing parts, I would be inclined to say the GT would be fine.

But I can't see the sense in selling one kind of FR-S in the states, It seems like you guys have them coming out your ears, so maybe toyota are trying to make as much profit with a small margin of error?

At the moment in AUS you're looking at a 4 month+ waiting period on an order, there is no such thing as a 86 sitting in a car lot waiting for an owner at the moment. I kind of do feel sorry for you guys not having that option to upgrade though, seems weird.
Its nearly opposite in North America.

The Subaru comes in Premium and Limited. Both are beyond "base"

The Scion/Toyota FR-S comes base with a la carte options. AND there aren't many either. Leather seats are dealer installed (local sub contract).

I was back at the dealership the other day. Was talking about upcoming options and they are clueless of any. I knew way more!
They will install ONLY approved options but admitted that like Subaru (who got a jump on them) they will have plenty just not sure when.
I priced mud-flaps ($144 installed) and want the fog lights and TRD cold air box when its available. But I have feelers out for an experienced motor head to install things I buy! I dont have the time to DIY and the dealership isn't going to be cooperative.

I had a "Crash Box" or more well known as a Dog Box in my WRX which I daily drove. It's an un-synchronized transmission which you had to double clutch to shift because there were no synchronizers to match up the gear speeds for you. The awesome part about it is that you can shift without using the clutch.

I'm pretty excited to get my FR-S. It's everything I want. Small, light, low, RWD, etc...

You can also shift a synchro transmission without using the clutch. I used to do that but now that I'm older and wiser I usually don't do things when the penalty for failure can be death or costly.

You really should not do that in a synchro transmission though. It's really bad for the synchros because they aren't made to do that. You will end up having to replace all of the synchros which is very expensive.

Yes. Your original statement didn't include "not having any synchros to damage" and my response did not include "possibly damaging the synchros". We're both a little guilty of omission.

I've heard that communications is the biggest problem in the human race.

I don't really need anything in a car besides FM radio, folding windows, and windshielf defrosters. The barebones FR-S was just perfect for me.

I grew up on basic cars that needed constant care and maintenance, too. Primitive fuel injected Camaros. An oil-drinking RX-7. A Carbureted 240Z. None of which averaged more than 15mpg. Fact of the matter is, apart from the way they drove when they were running right, I'm f#%king sick of cars that I spend equal parts wrenching and driving (or sometimes, more wrenching than driving).

This is 2013 and we have reliable, comfortable, quiet, efficient and technologically superior cars. The FR-S/BRZ happen to have all these in a lightweight sporty package like the ones I grew up with. I want one and I don't want to be messing around with it all the time. Otherwise I might as well save myself $28,000 and stick with my 80's cars.

I'm with you. I don't miss the days when I was under my hood every weekend just to keep my cars running right.

(Anyone who has ever had a car with a Holley 750 with mechanical secondaries knows what I am talking about)

Call it old age but the only wrench turning I want to do anymore is directed to making my car BETTER!

Reminds me of when I was a kid back in the 40's. I remember hearing men talking about their cars and the mileage they were getting. In those days if you were doing better than 10 mpg you had bragging rights.

In my case it was triple Weber 40mm side drafts. I had to find a Ferrari technician to rebuild them for me because no one else would touch them.

Haha! touche'

Worst multi-carb setup I ever put a screwdriver to was a tri-power Rochester 2BBL setup. NEVER AGAIN!
