So the frame can't accommodate a sunroof, yet it was designed to be a convertible? The convertible should be a nice car, but I have to think the handling will be compromised.

Still, a convertible should increase the sales of the platform, and I would really love to see this platform succeed. But I don't see myself buying one.

Leave the roadster title to the MX-5. No roadster will ever beat it's performance/price standpoint. Hopefully Toyota keeps it's senses and doesn't start acting big headed because of their successful car. Turning this into a convertible is a mistake.

It just screams eclipse spyder. Ugly.

I won't complain either. I've owned a convertible all of my driving life just about. Part of the reason I want one of these cars is because it's a coupe. If "I" wanted a convertible I'd keep my pennies in the bank and keep my Miata.

That said if they can make and sell one profitably then I'm all for it. I just don't particularily want one.

Exactly. These cars should stay a coupe... IMO anyway

ok.. this might sound lame or has been discussed.. but does anyone remember when the MkIII supra came out with the targa top? Yeah if you do then you know thats a fail and toyota would never do it again! I owned a targa top, yeah it was fun and all, but that was before I noticed the weather seals were bad and the cars body twisted alot, be thankful for the hardtop model guys and gals!

Typically boxy cars tend towards masculine and curvy cars tend towards feminine. But really it depends. Just as we think of shapes as more beautiful or more strong, the same applies to something as common place in our society as cars.
I have to somewhat disagree, respectfully. Having driven and owned a variety of cars many of them have definite personalities and in some cases "perceived genders". I think most Hondas are gender neutral although an Accord V6 coupe I owned was definitely masculine. The 2 BMW's I owned were masculine. I owned 2 Mini Coopers, the S was masculine the other non-S feminine. The 2 Toyota Camry's I owned were most definitely feminine. My Volvo 240 wagon masculine. Trucks are obvious. My FRS is definitely masculine. I will admit this is a perception issue so take it with a grain of salt.

I can agree with that analysis just be careful with getting stuck stereotyping. Most cars are somewhere in between the hyper-masculine/hyper-feminine. Some cars are downright ungendered(no traits) or even androgynous(some of both). Confusing? I know.

One things for sure, having the top down doesn't make it a chick car. Maybe most of you are probably too young to remember, but didn't you people see Ben Hur? Name: blankface.gif

And Ben Hur had a 4 horsepower powerplant with some wild wheels!

Okay, a Spyder or 2 seat roadster is a hell of a lot different than a 2+2 convertible, which is or at least should be for chicks. The Boxster Spyder is freakin' awesome and I'm totally jealous of you.

I don't care much about convertibles but I don't hate them also, I don't see my self buying a replacement top every now and then to keep rain or noise out. I almost got a S2000 back 2004 problem is I don't see my self paying extra on a CF top or OEM hard top.

I think Jeremy Clarkson explain about convertibles
