I think the biggest issue would be weight. With steel, at least, a belleville washer stack would be considerably heavier than a conventional coil spring in anything other than a very short travel application. In the case of the Dallara F3 monoshock suspensions they probably only had ~0.5" or less of travel in either direction. Even then, a coil spring would have been lighter, but we're talking on the order of 0.25 to 0.5 lbs difference overall which would be offset by the ease and absurdly low cost of changing spring rates.

Even with composites, a coil spring would probably be lighter. I'd like to see how Hypercoils' carbonfiber belleville washers stack up (get it?) against Audi's fiberglass coil springs.

^ With the monoshock it looks like they were more concerned with packaging and rapid adjustment than weight.

An anti-roll bar mounted to a control arm also has a motion ratio to take into account, correct?

Just thinking about alternative (traditional Subie) options at the front...

Swaybars do indeed have their own motion ratios.

Because of the McPherson struts my main worry is geometry...roll centers, scrub radius, bump steer and bushing deflection, let alone damping and spring rates. Ideally any suspension upgrade will manage to keep the balance and poise of the car intact while increasing stability and avoiding excessive harshness, bounciness or packing, never mind bump steer.

Really looking forward to some nicely R&D'd parts before I slap stuff on my car. Big ups to RCE for testing stuff out & sharing what can be shared.

Hmm...

Um, is it just me or are the compression and rebound opposite of what they should be on this?

what damper is that for? the scale is way off and I think it makes compression and rebound look very linear. Graph should have been plotted 750 to -250 to get better granular information...

Err... Megan. Got curious about the 'meh' companies and dyno graphs. This is from their site.

But it's Rebound that is typically 2-4X Compression. This is backwards.

the bigger issue to me is the graph is almost a straight line. I think the scale exaggerates that, but you can still see there is very little "curve" to the curve.

Its funny that companies like that will actually publish a shock dyno. Just shows that much of the public doesn't know what they are looking at. The more hilarious thing would be to have them show the dyno of 4 identical dampers back to back. because I doubt any of them would have the same linear plotting. :P

The flatness is not right but I don't think it's the displayed scale. The shape just isn't correct to the units. Unless they are just that terrible (or impossible). If you look at the rebound (compression? The flatter one on the bottom.) It shows a digressive shape before it flattens out. But it transitions from the steeper slope to the flat one at less than .5"/sec!?!? That's ridiculous.

But it probably generates this: "Dude, my Megans rock your K-Sports cause they have a shock graph!"

looks typical of a horribly stiff coilover setup to me

pretty much linear rebound..meaning the shock will return to full extension pretty quick regardless of applied force. and the compression on the hardest setting looks like the shittiest ride imaginable with that digressive curve. The soft setting (blue) looks i could manage on the track..but still pretty stiff for a street coil.

This is for either an 8 or 10kg spring by the way. WRX or STI can't remember which.

There is no rebound control.
