That's enough for me to be leary of Subaru. That sort of thing is the last thing I want to think about when I'm hop lapping around some race track...

There are scenarios like the above for every manufacturer. Just read any enthusiast forum/blog and you will find someone complain. Guess what, it even happens to Toyota. It isn't just Subaru.

Yeah, Wolf. That's why, as someone who has never owned Subaru before, I would like to know a little more about reliability-durability issues on the boxer engines.

So, if we can, let's leave out examples of cars that are not stock. Let's just talk about reliability on dead stock N/A and turbo boxers. [Not addressing this to you, Wolf. Just throwing it out there for the forum at large.]

Yes, it is true that any manufacturer will be reluctant to make good on a warranty issue, whether the complaint is legit or not. That's just the way they work.

The thing is for every guy that is complaining and making a stink, you have a group of other guys who have no issues. The Ford Raptor is another current example. What the complainer is saying might not be the whole story/truth. I don't see any reason why Subaru + Toyota + Yamaha won't equate to a well designed and built engine.

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about legitimate issues. Seals on Porsches, for example, which I consider a pretty big issue. Or slave cylinders on s2ks that develop a wear issue, which I consider a small problem, but a nuisance nonetheless.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Porsche's seals problem was Boxster & not on other Porsche's?

And Toyota, Ford, GM, Audi..... the list goes on have all had issues of some sort at one time. The important thing is to look at their track record when making a decision and not isolated cases that represent the minority of owners.

All M96 and M97 engines have seal issues. So do other P engines, but the watercooled engines are worse. M96 had some issues fixed with the M97, but I've seen move M97s leaking brand new than M96s did. At least the IMS design is fixed with the M97 engines though. Dealing with oil leaks is an annoyance, but it's not a IMS failure level of annoyance.

Again, I'm not talking about "isolated cases."

How about design flaws? How about recall items? How about screw-ups from the factory?

I would have paid extra for that. It's all about the marketing.

I am spoiled by Japanese reliability. At Porsche prices, I consider oil leaks more than an annoyance.

But I get your point.

Yup Toyota is guilty. As is Ford, Honda, Chevy, Dodge, Audi, Jaguar. So why don't you comment on Toyota's issues. I think you have greater concern than about Subaru. Sounds like Hyundai and 10/100k is what you need.
