No. In terms of driver interaction, it's not different from a paddle-shifting automatic. But like TSY mentioned, the mechanisms are very different.

Yes, just 2 pedals- gas and brake.

I agree these automatics have improved a lot. The 7 spd AT in my G shifts faster than I can, blips the throttle on downshifts, and has beautiful magnesium paddles to shift with.

I doubt they're as reliable under a lot of stress (ie racing) as an MT or SMG/DCT tranny though. I'm sure they're fine for 15" track sessions though.

dual clutch transmissions might be faster, but they are not more durable than a true manual transmission. Mitsubishis, Porsches and BMWs have all had problems at the track overheating their DCT's. If you're going to track your car either avoid the DCT or upgrade it's cooling system.

As to upgrading the BRZ's brakes for track duty, who the heck on the first page mentioned dropping $1000 for new rotors?

To track the BRZ you will need the following:
-track only brake pads
-fresh brake fluid (and OEM fluid should be just fine unless it's a very brake heavy track. then spring for the higher temp fluid)

You will wear out rotors faster with the more aggressive pads, but nowhere near the rate of one set per event. Lightweight cars are awesome at the track b/c they are incredibly friendly to brakes and tires

That was a quote from the Motor Trend video, if I remember correctly, not the opinion of someone on the forums.

$32 per replacement rotor on rockauto.com for the BRZ. For $1000 you can probably do a full WRX STI brake swap.
