I'm not really willing to spend several hours out of my day just to drive somewhere far to see whether or not I liked the car. 1-2 hrs one way, 10-15min test drive, 1-2hrs back. That's almost half the day gone just being on the road. It can get tiresome for some people, especially older folk (I would assume this guy is). Then what, you go out find out the trunk is too small for your taste...he's supposed to just get it because its a sports car and who cares about the trunk?

Some of you are assuming hes fully invested in the car from the get go, in which case it would constitute some sort of whining. I don't think he was fully invested in it (just a top option on his list of options) so it all starts with a test drive. If he doesn't have that how is he going to know if he likes the car or not?
Well I guess not all of us have 30k lying around and the ability to decide we don't want to invest our time in carefully considering what that money will be going into.

A Honda Civic two years ago was one of the options on my list of cars to get. I still spent two hours dealing with a dealer to test drive one between commuting there (back then I had no car so I needed to take public transportation, which is even more time-consuming).

Same with a Ford Focus. I needed to waste an hour each way commuting on a bus/train to get to test drive one, plus talking to the salesman and learning about the car, and figuring out if it'd fit my usecases.

If you don't want to hassle with folding them up and down, just leave the seats down. They weren't very useful for me, and I ended up removing them anyway. If the car isn't for you, it just isn't. No harm in that.
It is fun that one of the specific design criteria given to the engineers was that the car must be able to fit two golf bags with clubs.

I recently bought wheels/tires for the BRZ that are probably a bit too large. I was able to get all four in the back without issue (as is the design criteria as well) with a box of coil overs, a sway bar, LCAs, and toe arms.

I could only get 3 wheels in the FiST.

They were willing to order you the car? It may not be a Porsche but being able to order would've meant you could actually choose whichever options and color you wanted. Sure you'd need to wait a couple months for it, but are you really that impatient? Well, you must be if driving one or two hours for a test drive is such a big problem.

Also, saying a car is niche and that having to order shouldn't be a problem is pretty ironic. The whole idea of something being niche, IMO, is that it's unique and not something easy to find/get ahold of. Actually, the definition of 'niche' literally means "specialized variant" of a thing, in this case a car, which exactly fits a special ordered car.

I've seen people on this forum who said they winded up going with whatever color they saw and because they just wanted the car and some regret not getting some other color.

So the dealers were trying to help you make "the right decision".

But okay, let's complain about all the things.
How is a dealership helping me make the right decision by having me order a car I have never test driven? Seems to me that's just selling a car. The reason I want to see and drive a car is do I won't end up crying that I hate it. If I liked it enough to buy it I would have then ordered it in the color and with the options I wanted. Why are you taking the fact that I feel as a consumer I should not have to go out of my way to buy a companies product personally? I don't live in my mom's basement, hiding behind a keyboard bashing people I don't even know just because for some reason they feel emasculated if someone says something negative about the car they drive. I have life so yes 3 or 4 hours to test drive a car (any car) is too much. If your such a fan of the car great. Point out it's positives and if your trying to be helpful point out what they may find as negatives but let a person make up their own mind.

How can I drive fast from dead stop like an automatic cars? When I take off from 1st gear maximum speed I can get is 10 mph and then bit of a pause for 2nd and then off I go faster. These automatic suckers are like tailgating or just behind the trunk.

Teach me how to take off like champ?

And I repeat what I wrote somewhere several pages back, that the manufacturer doesn't really care if you buy this car, and the dealership doesn't want to sell you this car. It's a niche vehicle, and the manufacturer knows they're going to sell what they build whether you get a chance to test drive it or not. The dealership doesn't really want it on the lot because it's low margin without a lot of upselling opportunities.

Thus whining about it still doesn't do any good, since nobody you whine to will really care.

Not at all. If he doesn't have sufficient interest in the car to make the trip to drive it, that's fine. He can not test drive the car and move on to something else, and none of us would ever even have to know. Every day there are people who don't test drive this car, and we never hear about them.

What makes it whining is that instead of just moving on to something else, he came onto a board full of people who have much higher than average interest in the car and complained about it. People tried to give him alternate solutions, but he complained about those also. People tried to explain that the niche market at which this car is aimed would travel much further than he would have to in order to test drive the car, but he just complained that he shouldn't have to hold that level of interest to be provided the opportunity to drive it.

Complain, complain, complain.

Whining.

On the contrary. I assumed his interest in the car was so weak that it wasn't really in his interest to go drive it. What I didn't understand was, if he's not really that interested in the car, why was he complaining about it? And why to people who actually do like the car?

I must admit that at first I felt people were a bit hard on him but as time went on and his responses to the people that were trying to be helpful got worse I sort of gave up.
Pretty sure none of us are "emasculated" by negatives. Especially when the negatives are stated without any attempt to verify if they are even accurate.
