Those look badass, but I am hesitant to go with a staggered setup, despite the amazing looks. I really like the way that the stock suspension/handling feels and I am worried about changing that by going with too wide of a wheel/tire.

There is no reason to go staggered. I was just showing how different widths of the same wheel look different. But there is a reason to go WIDE. MORE GRIP!

I hated the stock suspension and tires, for me it ruined the car. I almost sold it right after I got it I was so upset with the car.

BUT then I started tuning and now I am very happy. For some reason (actaully a good reason so newbs don't die) they made the car lose grip at 6 MPH. It's impossible to go around corners fast with the stock set-up. The car will just loose grip and UNDERSTEER then OVERSTEER which sucks.

I read this recently in the HPDE/Track/AutoX forums, and it really made me less hesitant to upgrade to better tires at least, out of fear of changing the stock balance/feel.

People have asked me if it loses that “tossability” – the ability to achieve a slightly irresponsible slip angle at any given moment– when you fit wider tires. Their concern seems to be that once you bolt up a stickier tire, or stiffer suspension, or both, that you are trying to outsmart the recipe concocted by the engineers who put all of the pieces together to begin with. This speaks volumes about what people think of the car as it comes out of the showroom. This fear is that somehow you would be punished with a numb, under-steering car with an unbalanced power to grip ratio.

Not so. The Scion FR-S is like a hot chick who can kick your ass. It has great lines, gets more fun as you get comfortable pushing it to the edge and it punches far above it’s weight. It also responds really well to bolt-ons… Either way, the car was designed to be thrashed on the racetrack, and the more time I spend doing that, the more I understand just how good the boffins made this car. The package that rolls off of the dealership floor is brilliant, but they knew that some wouldn’t leave well enough alone. Instead of ignoring the tuners and racers, the engineers embraced and planned for it.
I like the part about the hot chick kicking my ass

If you want to drift at 20mph don't change anything. If you actually want a grip monster/performance machine get real tires.

I can still get sideways at autoX and my set-up easily generates 25-30% more grip than stock. Maybe even more than that. I bet I could generate 1.15 lateral G on a racecourse.

This isn't the first time I've tried to make a car turn better, it's just the best platform I've started with!!!

Skip to 1:58 on this video and you'll see me get sideways at about 55MPH on my 9" wide/grippy set-up on grippy concrete.

Overpriced IMO. Good tires though.

I have gone back and forth a lot on what tires to run when I put on my wheels (gonna be stock tires for minute still) but I decided on wider stickier (hankook v12 in a 225 or 235) after reading Rallysport Directs build. Evidently sticky tires and sway bars are awesome, improved but similar feel to stock with much more grip is how I took it.

And for the 20mph drift thats why Im keeping my stock wheels and cheap tires.

I've seen it done, but I wouldn't recommend it. I love plastidip for those temporary things, even used it on my wheels as primer, with good results. I have, on the other hand, have had some problem with it. I painted a shiny (clear coated) painted part on my SV650, later to realize, after peeling it off, that it has dulled the clear coat. I don't know how, must have been something in the plastidip that ate up the top layer, but I was able to fix it after some extra work (buffing w/ compound, etc.).

If you are adamant, I would do a test panel, maybe somewhere not too visible (under the bumper or something) before doing the whole car. And please, don't buy 20 cans and do it that way, I believe they sell it in bulk which you can use a regular paint gun to apply

I found this guy's videos pretty helpful: https://www.dipyourcar.com/

LOL don't do it!!! Not the whole car... Will make the car look cheap, your car doesn't deserve that. If you have a clapped out rust bucket, I'd understand. Not a new car!
