Obviously you've never met someone raised in my neck of the woods. My Dad's version of the above was:

1. An oak "switch" you had to climb the tree and get yourself. It had to be green otherwise it wasn't any good for the intended purpose.

2. A couple of lashings with a tobacco stick. And for those that don't know, a tobacco stick is not a cigerette, its a 1x1x48 inch rough hickory or oak piece of lumber used to hang tobacco for drying. It has a real nice flex to it in the middle for really good whip action. (Fortunately on this one it was usually for show more than go, but you were never really sure)

3. Digging a line of post holes to nowhere or shoveling cow manure for hours from Point A to Point B back to Point A.

All of that was infinitely better than the soul crushing action of my mother sitting me down at the table, handing you a piece of homemade pie you know took hours to make, and then joining you with her coffee to tell you just how disappointed she was by your actions.

With the issues of recalls and complaints that the car isn't safe, people need to realize what is the real problem out there.
Now being recalled is frozen pizza.

Unfortunately it seems like disciplining your children with any sort of force these days can get you thrown in jail.

My mom, on top of temporary superhuman strength, speed and agility, could work a belt like a bullwhip. There was no escape.

That and her legendary lockpicking/heat seeking house slippers.

I didn't even know kids GOT grounded when I was growing up lol.

Now the new generation of my cousins get squat. Oh have times changed. To this day my cousins and I reminisce and laugh over the stupid things we used to do and try to decipher who really deserved the punishment in the first place.

Ugh that's literally the worst. Can't stand it when parents throw around the d word.

I haven't. But I'm glad someone that does back when you were an adolescence. lol I just can't fathom how kids these days are allowed to go rampant because of a flawed child abuse law.

And I do agree on the sitting down and telling your kid "I'm very disappointed" I remember one of my high school AP teachers told the entire class that he was so disappointed that we couldn't have done better. I forgot whether it was because someone said something wrong or overall not-up-to-his-standard grade.

And I do apologize. I should've said "American parents *these* days."

I didn't even know either lol. I just knew everytime I did something wrong I was told to go to the back (this was at the liquor store) where my dad took out the metal (its like a copper wire that's formed into a handle) fly swatter, broke the part that kills the flies off and unwound the twisted metal. Them went at it with my butt, thighs, and back.

That stuff broke skin.

I still laugh. Lol Telling stories to your friends on how your parents beat you for doing something wrong. Kids now can't even use some damn moral judgement to determine what they're doing is wrong.
