It sounds like if you fix the problem and prove that to the court before your appearance the judge could choose to dismiss (with a fee). The key word there is MAY.

Thanks for the info

In the last Legislative Session, they fixed the glitch in state law that precluded the levying of a fine for no front plate. I spoke to a local police officer before the law was fixed and he indicated he knows a lot of sports car people like to run with no front plate (for looks) and he said that he would typically leave those alone (he's a car guy, too) but, if he he saw an older plain jane vehicle he'd pull them over because odds are some of those folks have outstanding warrants, etc. No front plate is a tool to make a probable cause STOP.

Now that the law is fixed, it's open season for no front plate as it is again a revenue making violation. 99% sure if DPS spots it and the officer has the time to make the stop - you gonna get a ticket (the real deal or a warning) and the local yokel judge you'd see ain't gonna be that forgiving unless your story is real convincing. YMMV. "Do you feel lucky, punk?"

I spoke with the State Representative's office that sponsored the bill last session to remove the requirement of the front plate in Texas and they said more car people need to organize and pressure their legislators to support the bill he'll again introduce at the next session. Last one died in Committee. With all the "big brother" surveillance measures in place (cameras) that recognize and track our movements with plate recognition technology - I doubt the requirement will ever change.

As a crazed group of radicals hellbent on a license plate revolution to run no front plate (or slanted ones)....we will increasingly be targeted as dangerous domestic malcontent skum and ultimately subjected to roadside body cavity searches (they gotta find that missing front plate you are hiding!). Be forewarned slave!!!!

Just an FYI - I got a no front license plate ticket from SAPD. I took a cell phone picture showing that I "fixed" the issue and the ticket was dismissed after paying a small court fee (~$10). In total it took about 10 minutes and the people at traffic court were surprisingly pleasant.

What was your excuse to the cop/judge for not having front licence plate on the car?

Maybe "was washing the car, but here's the plate in my trunk" excuse? Do they keep track of dismissed tickets and their excuses?

No excuse needed. They just wanted proof (picture) that it was fixed. It was a surprisingly painless procedure.

Looks like very high chance of rain tomorrow morning (Sunday). Does anyone know if Harris Hill still operates the classes if raining?

I'm sure they will leave that up to you, give them a call today to make sure but, if possible, I would make the trip there and decide then because it may not be as wet as you think. I'm going regardless, the track is still very fun when wet, no better way to learn car control, but you may want better conditions for your first time. And hey, if you decide not to do the class tomorrow, you can jump in my passenger seat for a preview....

I just called and talked to them. They will run class rain or shine. He said we can call at 9 to check conditions, but he said lots of folks like to come out in the wet and learn. I have to agree that the wet may just increase the fun factor. So lets do it!

Y'all have fun! The roads out here in Florida are a lot more boring, but the weather is perfect.

I'm still in for Harris Hill tomorrow! *Rain chances should be diminishing by mid-morning according to the hour-by hour forecast.

* Murphy's Law applies.

Sorry guys. It is WAY wet outside.... Didn't think it would be this bad. If I'm gonna spend this much money, I'd rather it be dry. Sorry y'all, I'm gonna go a different day. Hope you guys have fun!!
