Toyota got a bad rep for doing the recall but that was to push ease back in the mind of consumers

http://www.nhtsa.gov/PR/DOT-16-11

According to nhtsa offical site they found nothing at all

Hyundai on the other hand others great drivetrain coverage but when you are a company trying to break into the good graces of consumer that only makes sense

Not going to lie, but I do like the 100,000 miles or 10 years warranty. But at the rate I drive my Suzuki(I know I know, not a Toyota or Subaru but its a nice car for me), I don't drive much. Its 2008 and I only put 37,700 miles of owning it(My dad drove it off the lot without paying any payments for 6 months and no money down, with no interest, now I'm taking over payments for my own credit and having a nice car to me). I barely push 9,000 miles a year on it.

I'm thinking of getting a Scion in the "near" future(Most likely, a year or two after having no payments and visit Europe for three months). After I'm done paying off my Suzuki, get done with school, I might get another car and leave my Suzuki at my parents house but take it the local dealership and get an inspection done to see what is cover by warranty and take it Suzuki for my warranty work.

But the Genesis Coupe is a piece of machinery that should get respect. Hell, Hyundai is making better cars than they used to. Maybe they want to make sure Genesis owners get their money worth?

The whiskering could have initiated at *any* of those terminals. For the case they found, it was a *relatively* benign scenario but still "undriveable" and unacceptable. For other *equally likely* cases of whiskering initiating at and shorting to other terminals, consequences could be different.

The fact of whiskering ocurring on this component totally justifies a recall.

If RoHS compliant lead-free plating and soldering are to be used, risk mitigating measures must be taken. If not, this is what you get.

any car company can dishonor any warranty but they need to have proof of the reason it is being voided. If you drive the car in a reasonable manner and don't beat the crap out of it you shouldn't have to worry about this issue. Personally I don't know of anyone who has ever had a claim voided where it wasn't justified.

that said, my friend had a clutch replaced under warranty on his Tiburon at around 80k miles. I was pretty shocked since I figured they would claim it was a wearable part, but they fixed it no questions asked.

another benefit of the warranty occurred a year later when the car was totaled in an accident. He got about $1200 more than a comparable mitsu8 eclipse would have gotten because the powertrain warranty was still in effect.

Some dealers still dishonor warranty when you mod your car, no?

No. There are laws that protect the consumer for these sort of things, otherwise all dealers would just be "voiding" warranties left and right. If I destroy my motor and I happened to have a mod on my car, the dealer will need to prove that my mod played a role in the problem.

I'm aware of that. There is still tune like flashing and whatsoever it may be that would void warranty. If you don't mod the car, it's fine, but if you want to mod a car, waiting until 10yr or 100K miles is ridiculous.

I view the Gen Coupe as basically a Korean Mustang.

Only issue is...the actual Mustang is damned good and a lot faster....

The GenCoupe's manual transmission is pretty bad from what I've read (I haven't driven one, they never had anything available except for the auto every time I visited a dealership).

The handling is good....but apparently the most current Mustang, in GT form, is better, which is kind of shocking to me...I love mustangs and the new ones handle fantastically but it wasn't really intended to be a sports car...

I think the next-gen GenCoupe will probably be really great just based on the fact that this first one was an experiment.

But....the next Mustang will probably be amazing too.....

Both are increasing in cost though....*shrug*

You have it twisted. The Mustang puts down better handling NUMBERS but the GC have better handling FEEL. If you look at only numbers then the Mustang GT is a better handler than the FR-S since the GT gets a .97g lateral grip and the FR-S and Miata gets around .90g lateral grip.

Lateral grip numbers and feel is completely different. Read this article to understand what I mean.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...e/viewall.html

4th place: Dodge Challenger SE
A yacht trying to keep up with speedboats, but the ride and style are smooth.

3rd place: Chevrolet Camaro RS
A quick coupe whose weight sacrifices fun and cartoonish cabin compromises comfort.

2nd place: Ford Mustang V-6
New 3.7 is nearly as quick as last year's 4.6-liter V-8, and more fun to drive, too.

1st place: Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Track
The only one that looks and feels like a sports car. Surprise, we liked it best.

Erm....yeah no, I understand that peak grip is not an indication of overall handling. I read that article a year ago, along with many many others

The latest Mustang GT and V6 are highly praised for handling...not just lateral grip. Have you driven one? The feel is very good. I read more positive praise of the Mustang's handling than the Genesis Coupe - especially the 2012 model, which had further suspension changes.

The V6 Genesis and Mustang GT are within 100lbs of each other as well. 35xx vs 36xx lbs.

I heard they still feel floaty compared to the GC. That's why MT said the GC still feels more like a sports car than everything else in that comparison. It's more low to the ground, with the right seats. I have sat in the new Mustang GT and it still felt to high and the seats was more fitting for a fat guy. Have you ever driven a R-Spec or Track model?

The heaviest GC 3.8 Track is 3,476 lbs and the heaviest GT Sport/Premium is 3,6XX lbs so it isn't 100 lbs.

Those are the official figures.....I go by what owners actually go out and weigh. The GC 3.8 is up in the mid 3500's.

And yeah, the Mustang's seats are definitely higher up.

The floatyness was definitely an issue, but Ford's increased the damping recently, which is available with the Brembo track pack.

I have been on GenCoupe.com since 08 and I haven't seen a owner said anything about 3,500+ lbs. Is there a link?

These 2 cars are my first choices. I hope they both release pricing information but if they are the same price, i might go with the genesis
