It's pretty simple really - the BRZs with the last 4 lower than your were built before, the ones with the last 4 higher were built after. What's so hard to follow?

Thread was started on 8/24. That's well after your 6/12 manufacture date. Perhaps some got their cars sooner after they were manufactured than you did

I worked at a Toyota dealership this summer, and every FR-S we received had this ECU problem. I was also informed by one of the delivery drivers that this had happened with almost every FR-S that was dropped off (a check engine light would be lit as soon as the car was started). That being said, I had the chance to drive one with a stick, and they are fun little cars. I wouldn’t have minded a bit more power, as it seems a bit slow in comparison to my 2011 VW GTI w/ DSG, but overall the car was pretty smooth. Though I am surprised that it took Toyota and Subaru this long to make an announcement, I knew about this in July…

That's exactly why I said "I'm not sure I believe this". I don't know if they're feeding me a line of crap, or what. What I can confirm, is that my 811 ECU with the latest flash...didn't resolve my CEL issue.

Hopefully I'm wrong, and my new ECU does the trick. I'll keep everyone posted, once I get another ECU.

So I took the list and did some clean up and sorted by VIN. Very interesting to see all of the BRZs with 27XX, 28XX and 29XX VINs and all of the FRSs with 7XXX and 8XXX VINs. It seems like most of the reported incidents are recently built cars. I deleted any that didn't provide a VIN

Yeah i just read that to, that's just even more WTF
If it is true, that is.

My 6 last digits in the VIN is: 006037
But then again my car is European so i guess the VIN differs.

It's a bit hard to figure out your tone. Aside from that, I'm not an idiot and that is not hard to understand. What you stated is what I originally figured. Just wanted to make sure I understood what was originally posted, that's all.

update: no word back from SOA about my cel after parts replaced. But my dealership seems to be showing signs of concern. If I don't hear from SOA by end of day Monday they will hear from me via certified letter, return receipt requested.

motortrend article is good, spread the word!

Are cam angle and expected cam angle logable parameters in the ECU?

I don't believe they are logable but available in the ECU's real time data stream. I can't seem to access them with an OBDII tool but Toyota was having the dealerships send the recordings of affected engines back when this all started.

I think if you know the PID? you can log them via an app like Torque.

so is it a casting issue or software issue?

obviously I'm hoping its a software issue, but what will happen to us if it's a casting issue?

The happiest outcome of that would be for them to identify exactly which VINs are affected (assuming it's a manufacturing error, not a design flaw) and recall them with replacement cars.

Got mine back today, so 8 days in total, they replaced the ECU (which had only come into the country yesterday) and they also took care of the cricket chirps TSB at the same time. Fingers crossed!
