I hope it provides some insight for people thinking about doing their first event. If nothing else, you can look at my pretty pictures from the photographers and watch the Youtube video of my final session of the day

In case you can't find it: http://86drive.com/2013/07/24/first-...t-thunderhill/
Thanks Chris great write up! I added some categories to it so that it's not uncategorized.

Hey any interest in a small white THill window sticker? I may order one from an online site. I tried to go to the gift store on track last time I did a track day there but they weren't open. I can order an extra and hopefully save some shipping.

I was thinking the same thing lol, I guess everyone is too busy for drives (including me). I'm iffy this weekend but planning on doing another lunch time redwood rd. run on Fri if anybody is interested.

Great write up, glad to see you on the track and having fun, I myself am yet to get on the track with the BRZ (been a couple of time with the WRX but due to the difference in dynamics, I'm considering this a clean slate). HOD is great, had them for my very first trackday, the price is well worth it imho.

Thanks! I didn't want to mess with the categories since I didn't know what you were doing with those.

And yeah, I'd love a THill sticker! I also tried to go to the gift shop to get one when I was there, but they were closed. My two friends that I went with would probably like one as well, since we all tried to buy one that day. So put me down for three and let me know how much I owe you.

Thanks! Yeah you should definitely try to do a track day with the BRZ, it's such a joy on track. When I was there and saw all the WRXs/STIs I was wishing that I had done a track day in my WRX just to compare the two. One thing's for sure, I wish I had that power on hand in the BRZ!

On that note, should we all try and find a date that all the 86Drive people can go? One big track day meet? Might be hard to schedule, but it's worth a try since I know we all want to do it.

HELL YES! It would be funny if we all ran the same newb group and drove around the track following each other in a line with no passing.

I'm down because I know I'm a complete rookie there but I would love to love to maybe try something little dangerous given the space

OK I'll pick up about 5 stickers then. btw it would just be the outline of the track, don't think I saw one that actually says "Thunderhill" from the track decals sites.

@MyRx has been pushing for Laguna Seca Nov 3 with NCRC. That is the cheapest I've seen for LS this year, and NCRC is a good group ... since you've got your first HOD experience under your belt I think you would be OK to run by yourself in the Solo group. Still not sure about that date myself, but it's a good date far enough away that people can save up/plan ahead for it.

Great write up @overlookedx! Looking forward to my first track experience too. I'd prefer to go to Laguna Nov 3 as a "group" venue b/c it's least $$ and b/c it's Laguna Seca. Let me know when you pull the trigger and I'll do the same

...I'm (la familia) are basically sitting at the edge of our seats to fly out of the country for family vacation...hence I can't plan ahead.

@PMok, remembering our talks lol, I marked my oil filter, drain plug, diff & tranny plugs, tires to see what the dealership would do in regards to their service haha. I put the car on ramps yesterday to look at something.

LOL I forgot to tell you my latest dealership woes tale. The other day I took my Lexus in to the dealer for the "managers special", oil change for $39. Pretty good deal. When I get there the service mgr says hey there's 2 recalls for your car, we can do them today. I say great, I'll wait. 2 hours later they give me car back and I'm driving home. Hmmm interesting they didn't reset the maintenance interval counter, nor the windshield sticker for next oil change. On the way home the mgr calls me and tells me he just discovered that my oil change didn't happen. Somehow the tech did the Line 1 (the two recalls) but skipped Line 2 (the oil change). So now I need to go back there sometime for the oil change that I alread paid for.

Wow.. well here's one positive, at least they didn't do the oil change and then forget to put the oil cap back on.

I like that idea, haven't heard anything bad about NCRC and haven't done an event with them, so should be interesting. Got Nov 3 penciled in my calendar

Haha that would be pretty funny, almost like our weekend drives. I had a helluva time passing people at the track because of my lack of power... I was like "Hold on please I'm trying to pass I swear!"

Hmm this makes me think we should try for a THill day.. since there's plenty of runoff.

Haha exactly what we've been doing on GT5, apart from the running into guardrails and what not. Let me know when you order the stickers and how much I owe you.

As for the track day, Laguna Seca scares me because of all the walls. I had a blast at THill cause I knew I could push it a little more with little to no consequences.. I guess I would just have to take it easy at Laguna Seca. I'd be worried about people who are complete noobs on stock tires though.

I'm definitely down to do Laguna in November, but as I mentioned above, not sure it's the best place to do a group of us with varying levels of experience. Especially if we have more than a few people with no experience, cause I know Laguna doesn't have a "Driving School" run group. But if we all agree on it, then I'm definitely down.

yes, for absolute beginners I would recommend they sign up to do a day at Thunderhill first. Then Laguna as a second or third day. There's plenty of time to do that before November so go sign up guys!

Oh one note about Laguna... they have stricter sound max 92db. So if you have aspirations of going to drive LS someday don't go too loud on your exhaust set up. You will be black flagged and/or have to drive slow on track neither of which is ideal.

I'm very tempted to do the SpeedVentures track day at Auto Club Speedway on Aug 10... same venue as 86FEST the following day. But I don't think that is a good course for beginners either - go do the Moto-P DDA same day instead.
