So...

I've been looking at some future fun cars (hatches) and I've come down to two choices.

Mazda Speed 3 and Subaru Impreza WRX 5dr.

Went through some pros and cons and damn they're pretty close. Total nub here but... aside from the STi is it possible to get a different type of... "turbo" ? I've been afraid to ask this question but I don't give a flying f. I'm here to learn from people.

Thoughts?!

Edit: I'll also let you know I'll get an FT86 down the line as well. I plan on owning 2 cars. and maybe another car for daily driving purposes if my work is far.... or a road bike if its not too far. :P

Don't be scared, I ask people all the time like these awesome members who have correctly educated me on the pros and cons lol

I see it as fun FWD vs powerful AWD

Do you need AWD? What costs more in the long run? What is easier to maintain? What are the price differences? Insurance?

What do you mean different turbo? The difference between the WRX and STI? Or another turbo hatch like the Ford Focus ST?

Yeah that's what I thought...I hope you have a STEM degree to be making an assertion like that.

Blouch Turbo is some good guys. The thing to remember is that the WRX and STI use different turbo..."types" so if you're staying with the stock location, you can't just use a stock location STI turbo without changing a bunch of other stuff, from what I recall (they are both IHI VF series turbos, but the mounting flanges/locations are different). I never had a GH/GR/GV chassis car, just did a lot of reading about it.

Mm... The prices between the Speed 3 and Impreza WRX Limited is about 4k.
Impreza has the 20HP+ difference on the SPD 3. Spd3 has torque kick alot higher for obvious reasons.

I could enjoy the FWD but I want a powerful AWD for traveling purposes (camping and such). Yea it'll be used for "motorsport" but it'll be going into the forest with me. Lol Plus... in Rainy conditions it'll work better here. lol

The impreza also weighs about.. 80lbs/38ish kg less than the spd3.

Insurance should be both relatively the same.

MMMM... More like I can't tell the difference between the WRX and the STi. LOL.

So I'm wondering what I could add to make it have that little kick. :P

If it's for camping so forest stuff then I would recommend keep it in NA (3 or Impreza). It's cheaper & better mpg. Not worth having that snail under the hood.

Biggest con of AWD is the tires. One for all, all for me. If one blow, gotta replace other 3 too. Also extra parts to maintain than FWD (like CV axle, rear diff, hub bearings, & so con).

Differences between the WRX and STI: Wheel bearings/hubs (5x100 WRX, 5x114.3 STI), turbo chargers/placement, transmission (5spd WRX vs close ratio 6spd STI), and differentials (WRX: open front and rear with viscous or MPT center; STI: Driver-Controlled Center Differential and front/rear LSD), and finally brakes (WRX: same brakes we have; STI: 13" Brembo brakes). The $10000 has been less worth it to people since the WRX got the bump to 265hp, but you're paying for the more advanced transmission/differential setup, and those Brembo brakes.

3" turboback exhaust and a Cobb AP with a pro-tune. $2000 for a crap-ton of power.

Honestly I've been very happy with this Forester, but I think for my next daily car, I like to just get a normal Impreza, even if it's not a WRX it's a nice car and in a funny way it drives just like the Forester I have, from experience I just feel like you can't really go wrong with a Subaru.
