Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce Heading To Paris With New Engine, Q4 AWD

Quote:
Alfa Romeo's lineup for this year's Paris Auto Show includes a new version of the Giulia, which adds the Veloce suffix.

Unveiled over the web and with its order books set to open in the first day of the French event, on September 29, the compact sedan will be showcased in two examples and will see the debut of the Blue Misano livery.

The first car will be powered by the new 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, with 280 PS (276 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, while the second one will get a 2.2-liter diesel engine, which is the first of its kind in the brand's history to have been built entirely of aluminum. The latter mill develops 210 PS (207 HP) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque. Both models come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which pushes the output to the Q4 all-wheel drive system.

Joining the Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce at the Paris Auto Show will be two Giulia Super models, with a 180 PS (177 HP) 2.2-liter diesel engine and 200 PS (197 HP) 2.0-liter petrol unit, both with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive. These cars have been equipped with the Sport Pack, Luxury Pack, and Mopar carbon accessories in the grille, side mirror casings and gearknob.

The Giulia family will be completed by the Competition Red Giulia Quadrifoglio, powered by a 2.9-liter V6 bi-turbo petrol engine, rated at 510 PS (503 HP) and equipped with ultra lightweight 19-inch rims, carbon ceramic brakes and Sparco seats.

Revised in time for this year's Geneva Motor Show, the MiTo and Giulietta will be on display in Paris as well, where they will be joined by the MiTo Veloce and Giulietta Veloce. The former has a host of restyled features and Mopar accessories, and takes its power from a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo petrol unit, rated at 170 PS (168 HP) and mated to a TCT automatic transmission.

The latter is distinguished by an Etna Black metallic livery, tweaked bumpers with red inserts, 18-inch alloy wheels, Brembo braking system, new seats wrapped in leather and Alcantara, and racy contoured steering wheel. Power comes from a 240 PS (237 HP) 1,750cc turbo petrol engine, mated to a TCT automatic transmission. The Alfa Giulietta Veloce on show also features Mopar accessories.

An Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe, with three-coat metallic Stromboli Grey livery and carbon fiber elements will also be showcased in Paris, along with a 4C Spider in three-coat Competition Red, with a carbon fiber roll-bar cover, and Akrapovic exhaust system. Both cars are powered by the same 1,750cc engine.

Yes, and yes.

Especially if the Turbo 4 will accept an ECU tune or piggyback to push the base 280 HP model in to the 320-350 HP range. This would make it a super sleeper. There is healthy enthusiasm for the Guilia in the states. The Giulia QV seems to hit the sweet spot between luxury GT and racetrack ready. Where an M3/M4's are beasts on the track, but buck and thrash on the street. The Veloce makes it's U.S. debut in a few weeks at the L.A. AutoShow. This article expects it to come in around $50-$60K, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it come in lower.

More on the Guilia's Nurburgring lap as the Guilia QV retook the world's fastest 4 door sedan from the new Porsche Panamera Turbo (7:38) by 6 seconds. Throwing down a godlike 7:32 and besting it's own previous record of 7:39.

Epic lap (check out ~7:23 where the driver bodies up a curb at 150 MPH in a production sedan).

Chris Harris gets a second spin in the Guilia QV. Pronounces it one of the best 5 cars he's driven this year and one of the best on their test circuit.

"...Most of you will not be able to fathom why I've chosen this amazing Alfa Romeo over the M4 GTS and the M2... Reason is, around this circuit, it's technical faster, better, and more fun. It's rocket ship fast it feels miles faster than both of the BMWs..."

Starts at 16:19 runs through 19:00 minutes...

I'd be insanely jealous. Still trying to figure out how responsibly to fit one of these into the budget.

I'm hoping this can be my 'responsible family car' in a few years once it's lost about half it's value and needs maintenance on a monthly basis.

Also saw the Guilia at the L.A. Auto show. This car is drop dead gorgeous in person. All the curves and the paint don't really translate in still photographs. North American pricing was release today. Competitive in lower trims with great chassis and power, and from a performance perspective, the QV doesn't really have a peer.

Giulia - $38,990 (2.0L i4T - 5.1 sec 0-60)
Giulia AWD - $40,990
Giuliia AWD Ti - $42,990
Giulia Ti Lusso - $43,240
Giulia Ti Sport - $43,240 (same as Veloce model noted above)
Giulia Ti AWD Sport - $45,990
Giulia QV - $73,595 (3.9L V6T - 3.8 sec 0-60, lots of add-on's available)

I'm very happy about these prices as the design, standard equipment and performance are notch or more above the rest of the class.

Also the Giulia based Stelvio QV won "Best in Show" at L.A. This thing makes the Cayenne and Macan look absolutely pedestrian in person. In the luxury performance SUV category only the F-Pace was turning heads in a similar way.

Dang it Lexus you need to reduce weight on that next gen GS and RC coupe it's freaking way too heavy. Why can't we have less weight on cars.
