So yeah, like you said, learn the car in a safe environment. All the books in the world can't replace time behind the wheel.
We all feel your pain.
Your experience reminds us none of us wants to have our butts handed to us like this. Perhaps we're all a wee bit wiser than we were before cause you shared your mishap with us. Live and learn. Hang in there! Be thankful no one was hurt. Thanks for sharing.

Holy mother of God! Yep there are people like that and they are older than us! I remember the 14-17 Ferarri's crash in Japan and this story about this dad lending his 18yr old son his Gumpert Apollo S to impress his girlfriend and ends up totaling it or here in TX where this older gentleman drives his Buggati Veyron into the lake. So it just shows us we're not the only ones to make mistakes on the road, it happens and we can learn from it.

Shame to see one wrecked so soon. As some others have already said, a car can be replaced easily but a person cannot.

I hope it does not make you give up on RWD. Once you have some experience and learn what not to do with it while turning you will enjoy it just fine.

I haven't given up. I am really hoping they fix my car up. This didn't teach me that RWD is inherently bad/scary. It taught me that I don't know wtf I'm doing and have a lot of learning to do

Yeah man, don't be so hard on yourself. You're only human. The most important thing is that you're okay and nobody was hurt. MANY people have made much larger mistakes than this. Give it some time and don't stress out about it.

Glad nobody was hurt - and the car is just a car. It'll be okay! Keep us posted!

My fiance drives a 2012 WRX. Unless you're in it for off-the-line speed, AWD traction or need the 4-door practicality, I'd go for the FR-S. It's cheaper, and imho more engaging and fun to drive. I'm a sucker for light nimble cars though.

Years ago, I managed to inadvertently do a 180* in a 2000 Celica.

This was shortly after stiffening up the suspension -- a lot of the understeer I had grown accustomed to was dialed out, and suddenly I was facing the wrong way on a narrow road, just after entering a sharp corner at what I honestly thought was a reasonable and safe speed (whoops).

Luckily, no impact -- just a few terrified onlookers and a slightly rattled me.

Lesson learned -- get to know your car, and take it reaaaaal easy until you do. If you change the suspension set up, get to know it once again.

Anyway, it happens. I'm sorry that you didn't get as lucky as I did -- but at least you are okay, and insurance will take care of the rest.

In the meantime, look into signing up for an autocross entry level instruction event so when your baby comes back, you can get better acquainted.

Ouch.

Glad no one was hurt!

I don't think I've ever and will ever turn off TC on any car on the street. I've turned it off in an empty lot to spin the rear end around in an S2K but that's it.

Again, as most of us here have predicted, I think this is just the first of many accidents like this.

I think if things get out of hand, we might see different spring rates in the rear, stickier tires or a non defeatable TC in future FRS models.

24 is still a young age. And it could have been a lot worse. At least the OP was not DUI.

I would recommend to anyone to autocross the car if you are curious what the car can do. You will learn car control and the limits of the car. You will also realize how little you know about how to drive the car properly when you have an instructor drive your car with you in the passenger seat.
